Unexpectedly the kitchen at Mut Mee guesthouse is closed this morning. Staff shortage. So we're having instant coffee (which we can make ourselves) plus some "energy bars" which we travel with for just such an emergency.

Are there any food outlets in the vicinity of your guesthouse, Baz?

Are there any food outlets in the vicinity of your guesthouse, Baz? Sorry I missed your post, dear Annie. There used to be but many have not opened after Covid. It would have been a long walk.

Today is Good Friday so I have eaten hot cross buns. Mrs Faz doesn't like them but she bought a week's supply for me.

At the hotel in Arundle I selected the full breakfast: fried egg, bacon, sausage, black pudding, huge mushroom, tomato, hash browns and baked beans. It is now 4 in the afternoon and I still haven't recovered.

An unadventurous Brekkie today of four crumpets, a little worse for overgrilling with blackened areas around the curved edges but with lashings of butter they were oh so scrumdiddlyumptious!

Yesterday Mrs Faz used our raspberries to make 5 pots of jam. Today at breakfast we sampled some. Delicious. Raspberry and apricot are my favourite jams and we can't grow apricots in Chipping Sodbury.

Mrs Faz has taken me out for breakfast. I had a fry-up at Mrs G's (there is no healthy option): fried bread, fried egg, fried sausage, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, black pudding and baked beans. This was the small version. Others in the café had double that and had the bellies to prove it. We think just fruit for lunch. Then it is to Mrs Faz's sister for tea and cake. Tonight it is to the only restaurant in town open on Sunday evening for a Chinese meal.

Toast and lemon curd. 5 or 6 years ago we hosted a couple of French women from our twinned town Cesson. We gave them lemon curd for breakfast and they loved it. In fact they loved all the food they ate. When the rest of the twinning group went off for an excursion to Wales they preferred to stay with us.

This morning I had mince pies (Mrs Faz doesn't like them). These were my first mince pies of the season. By tradition you have to make a wish when eating the first mince pie. No idea why.

I had an unusual breakfast: a slice of Christmas cake. It is lurking in the kitchen and needs eating up. I won't do this every morning.
