We are going to London on Wednesday for 3 days. We have a friend who has a small flat in London (which she got so she wouldn't have to stay in hotels when she went for work purposes) and she kindly lends it to us.

I'm packed. Well I would be if I could find the other battery for my camera. The new one uses power far faster than my old one and I brought a third one for a spare. Can't find it anywhere!!
Will be out of touch for most of the 6 weeks I'm away. Catching up when I get back will be fun.
Be good!!
Annie - enjoy the UK.

In June we are going to Greece for ten days, staying principally on the island of Andros. Decades ago I stayed in Batsi when it had one tiny hotel. Since then it has been turned into a great tourist destination. So instead we are going to the Chora (main town). This is where many Greek shipping people have houses and they have stopped large development. We have a room in a small guesthouse on the beach. The ferry to the island leaves from Rafina which is close to Athens airport. This means we avoid the trek in to Piraeus where ferries to most other islands leave from.

public transport around Athens - when it works - is rather good, I hear. and my parents needed to take the bus from the airport to Pireus, and the bus driver gave them the old people's rate, unprompted. I wish you and Mrs Faz will benefit from such nice attention, too.

We are staying at the Avra hotel which overlooks the harbour - about 2 minutes walk to the ferry. Another advantage of the Avra is that it offers free transport to and from Athens airport. Also it serves breakfast from 6 a.m. so we can break our fast before catching a 7.30 ferry.

On Wednesday we will take the ferry to France. It is just a quick visit to replenish our stocks of cheap wine. I have found a nice place (according to the reviews) in a village 10 or so kilometres inland from Boulogne. Food and service seem good. Shame the weather is going to be cold.
Mrs Faz has just asked if we are sailing to Boulogne. No, Calais. It is a shame there are no ferries to Boulogne any more as it is much nicer than Calais.

Less than a week now before I slip over to Germany and Spain, probably until the end of September. I have a wedding to go to in Germany and the daughter has some exams to do for the end of the home-schooling. Then to Spain where I'll have to sort out the storm damaged wall after picking up our car that has been parked in Malaga since last November. Unfortunately this is German registered and I will have to drive it back to Germany to get the mechanical test done that will run out. Fortunately though, this only needs to be done every two years. Then I'll drive it back to Spain for the summer.

Yes Annie, hate them. Rikita, the TÜV, AU/HU, whatever it is called, but yes. Last time I made an appointment and could just wait for it to be done. This time I have to leave it at 11am and come back at 3pm. Bit of a pain but it'll give me chance to go for a long lunch I suppose.
I arrive in Frankfurt on the 21st May, which I've just realised is a bank holiday. The plan was to do some shopping with the daughter as she has a job interview the next day. It looks like that will be postponed until the next morning. A week later we fly to Spain, pick up the car and a few days later drive back to Germany.

Back now in the land of the long white cloud..... filled with rain. After 6 weeks of dry and heat I'm quite liking it. will take time to catch up on all that has happened here. Will post photos in due course. Getting old sucks. I spent two days with family in Auckland and two days with a 4.5 youngster was more tiring than 6 weeks travel.
