This is the thread for bragging about upcoming trips. Where and when are you travelling ?
In 7 weeks time I'll be in the air, on my way direction summer. We'll spend 3 weeks in Queensland, Australia, where we'll spend most of the time with hubbys family and friends. After christmas, we take over a rental car and make our way up from Brisbane to Townsville, where we have more friends. I am hoping to go camping for a few days up north with our Townsville friends. It's going to be fun ! The last few days we'll spend in Brisbane, either with friends or with the sister-in-law. On the way home we have 2 full days in Dubai, it's going to be interesting, I have never been in that part of the world and hope to find some nice bazaars.
Next year... I am not sure about my trips yet. I am looking forward spending some days with some potters in the Ticino and summer holidays are going to be either in Corsica or we'll do part of the camino santiago in France. We are not sure yet.
Your turn !

Turkey in December. First to Istanbul to see the lovely Pepe and his wife (again - but first visit since their wedding). Then - was going to Cappadokia for one night but the place I want to visit might be closed that day, so I'm not yet sure where. Then to meet up with all my friends at the Rumi festival in Konya. This will be the third year running that I'll be there for the festival. It's a hoot! (But not much fun for first-time travellers as you need to know people - none of the events are 'official' and it's word of mouth and invitation only.) Will be home just in time for Christmas.
In May 2010 - depending on dates I might be able to join in the Swiss-up for a day or two, Then it's off to China for my Silk Road overland journey. Nothing firmed up yet. WILL see Beijing and the Great Wall, then travel to X'ian and up to Uighar country and the Tak-whatever desert. Next, over one of the passes to either Kazahkstan or Kyzrgistan, and hopefully, into Afghanistan's Wakhan Corridor - though the latter will depend on a number of factors. I'll def. visit Samarkand and Tashkent, maybe Iran or maybe Turkmenistan, and end up in Istanbul before flying home after about 4 months away. There are so many possibilities on this route ....

My husband has some vacation time he has to use up by December, so we are trying to decide where to go. We will probably stay in Chile and are thinking maybe either Chiloé or La Serena/Elqui Valley/Isla Damas, but there are some cheap deals to Buenos Aires, so we may do that with a trip over to Uruguay, not sure yet.
Next year, we are thinking of San Francisco. It sounds like I may have to go there personally anyways, to get things together for the PhD application. My sister lives there so we can probably stay with her, or if not I have some other friends that would put us up. My husband has never been to the US and has not met any of my family, so it would be good from that standpoint too. Maybe my parents will be able to fly in to meet him too.
We are also wanting to go to Germany/France and back to Bolivia, Depending on finances, we may do one of those too next year since he has enough time off to do a few trips and, working online I have a lot of flexibility.

Is Bukhara in Afghanistan, Voy? If so, I might give it a miss, even though I'd love to go there; the Wakhan is safe enough I think, but for anywhere else it's 'ear to the ground' much closer to the date.

Bukhara is in Uzbekistan, as is Khiva - two of the major khanates in the 19th C times.. Bukhara was where the Emir had the pit - where he kept the European priest ... etc. and the tower to throw people off. horrible. but the architecture in both is fantasmic!

We are off to Wales in the morning for a week. A nice week of chilling out, walking and being cosy by the fire We are thinking of doing a big 3 week trip out of Europe next year but can't really decide anything...had my heart set on NZ but that flight with a 2 yr old scares the crap out of me. Now we are thinking maybe Thailand.... who knows it will probably be somewhere completely different by the time we have decided. This world is too damned big for the amount of annual leave I have! As usual, we will go to Spain at some point but when will depend on when the other trip takes place.

I'm coming to South Africa!! The ticket isn't purchased yet - but I committed today. I will be in Capetown (and surrounding region) the last week in May and first in June. We will be leaving before the world cup begins so should avoid some of the increased prices.
We are going to a birthday party and prior to that the hosting couple have arranged a tour (only their friends) of parts of southern South Africa. More info to come.

At the end of January we are off to Greece for 6 weeks. Most of this will be spent in Paleochora in southern Crete. There is snow up in the mountains but we hope there will be some sunny days on the coast.

Well it looks like the La Serena option is it for next month. They have some really cheap flights to there, barely more than taking the bus (bus is 7 hours, the flight is about 1 hour). We want to spend some more time in the Elqui Valley. We were there last year for a short trip, but there are some places we still want to explore. Also, there is this island called Isla Damas that is supposed to be like a tropical island with turquoise waters. It is a humboldt penguin reserve, and I really want to see the penguins.

The good news is that I shall have Voy all to myself here in Edinburgh next summer. I bought K-A a wonderful tartan pashmina-thing today direct from a weaver . It will compliment her dark complexion and eyes perfectly. Having bought stuff for her mother for years it is quite easy for me to match colours to that latina look.

Sorry for the threadjack. I forgot its a bragging thread here! Anyone care to join me on this trip in 2 weeks time from now? I forgot to mention that I am flying business with Continental direct from Edinburgh airport which is only 12 easy miles from my home. All that free booze on the plane and a transfer from Newark in to Manhatten. Not to mention all the shopping for goodies in Abercrombie, The Gap etc. Lunch at least once in Smith and Wollenski's. I am looking at Hockey and basketball fixtures now to try and get to some games whilst in town. And it seems to be turning in to a full family reunion too.
