re Ooty ( which I confess I hated ) etc. - try Coorg. Madikeri - is the main town. Hill station-ish. But never actually "conquered" by the Brits. Now they don't like it, but part of Karnataka. Good bus connections from Mysore and Mangla.

I'm away for just a few days from tomorrow so don't be alarmed if it goes quiet. I'll try and pop in but can't say for sure when.

Well, I got back ok. Updates to follow. Did I miss anything? I mean important stuff like what is happening/has happened on here. No the trivial stuff like a UK election.
My avatar is still there, no? It is for me.

Back from London. Rather amazing get together with voters from Ukip to ultra Labour, so it made for an interesting discussion.

".......made for an interesting discussion." Diplomacy at its best.
Voy, I'm afraid that any trip I would run would need all the participants to contribute meaningfully to its smooth running. Each and every individual would have to bring a skill "to the table" and there would be no room for slackers and free-loaders. Brain power and muscle power would both be useful in their own ways, as would problem solving, medical, psychological, mechanical and any other skills I could think of. I would have to send out questionnaires and vet accordingly those who I would feel to be unsuitable. Your place would be virtually guaranteed due to your foraging and meal preparation background. However, I do believe I'd have to keep my eye on you due to your occasional contrary nature. You have been warned.

Well i hope our driver Sees the euros we bring as enough contribution, i am Not planning on foraging or preparing meals ... Of course, only a very small Portion of the trip is actual desert, most is driving through the mountains and sightseeing and such things ...

Gilf Kebir?
I'll Let You Be In My Dreams, If I Can Be In Yours?
A colleague did a trans-African on just those terms. He was a mechanic, they had a doctor, etc., sadly the Doctor was required, one of the team was sent home missing a leg after an accident. That would have been 1979/80. Bedford TKs I think.
The RGS teamed with the BFI are reported to be making old archive footage available online and that should include film of Bagnold. I have looked but I can't find anything so far.

I think this is it(?) but it says it's not available in my location. player.bfi.org.uk/film/watch-libyan-desert-bagnold-1930/The Gilf Kebir would certainly be a possibility as it fulfils a number or criteria, but due to the fact of difficult permits having to be obtained it'd end up not being so feasible. At least there are easier places to arrange, I'm sure.
