thanks! leaving in a bit over an hour ... a. seems a bit down, so i asked her if she is sick, she said yes, i said then maybe we should stay (i wasn't all serious, she seems a bit tired but not actually sick), and she said "no, we can go, i can also lie in bed in our accomodation."

that's the spirit, riki! I hope you both enjoyed the journey and that you are now safe and comfy at your destination.
Jeffy, do take great care of yourself and of Mrs Jeffy. We love you.

thanks all... we're flying Iberia which we hope will be a legitimate airline with only the stopover in madrid... we have rented an apt via airbnb in the heart of Havana for the two weeks so will be doing our usual wandering at our pace...

We once flew Iberia from Madrid to Quito and were upgraded. I hope you have such luck, Jeff.

waiting in the lounge at TLV... someone heard Baz's wish... on 3 by 3 airplanes we reserve the aisle and window and hope nobody takes the center - and the nice lady at the check-in counter blocked the center seat for us... yay! the flight to havana from madrid is 2 by 4 by 2 so we won't improve on that unless there's a miracle...
btw, we have been warned that internet is pricy, slow and hard to find so we'll be mostly off-line until we get back... hope everybody has a good fortnight...

Rikita, your young madam is very perceptive. Why do holidays have to end!
Safe flight and have a great trip, shrjeff. I believe the cigars are good down that way.

In about three weeks we have decided to have a week in Namibia.
Will you take the Katima Mulilo Bridge?
The link is to its complex political history, a story I was told first-hand one evening in the desert near Gai-As from a man who obtained a doctorate in the science of gravel. It didn't arrive in time for me to see it.

I've not seen it either. Interesting article and fills in a few gaps in my knowledge I was wondering about. When I was knocking about in the area in the late 90's and then early 2000's I had to take the ferry but the bridge was always talked of in terms of 'it'll be soon'. As we only have a week and as it is still the wet season here but will also affect northern Namibia, we will fly in to Windhoek and get a car from there. It would take us three days driving anyway to get there as we'd be heading first to Swakopmund, then Sesreim and for some reason she wants a day in the capital.

I'm off to Singapore in a few weeks, followed by Calais. Is there anything wrong with my choices?

I'm off to Singapore in a few weeks, followed by Calais. Is there anything wrong with my choices? I remember you were going to take a container ship on a long voyage. How did that turn out?
