Just booked a hotel for somewhere about 4 hours drive north and complaining bitterly to myself about increased costs here. Could stay in Paris or Malta in places I use often for the same price... but as I'm going to be slightly less mobile at that time wanted somewhere to sit and watch the world go by and know that there is help if needed.

Just booked the ferry to France for the second half of May. We'll be seeing the two ladies who stayed with us last year on the twinning visit, going down to our old village in the Lot, and staying in a few country hotels.

Enjoy! My Petersburg less-often-mentioned faves were the modern art at the former Army barracks across from the Hermitage and a City Hall/Chesme Church combo.
Off next to a business trip to Mississippi, which I'm extending with a ride on the City of New Orleans for a weekend there, centered on the "Bayou Bugaloo." Featuring the Wailers, Buckwheat Zydeco, et al.

our camping trip is approaching and it is going to be cold ... gotta figure out camping gear - we don#t have proper sleeping bags and insulation mattresses yet, and we are going to need them ... i should have looked into it earlier, i don#t like buying these things spontaneously, without being sure what i really want ...

Next week it is down to Brighton for a lunch celebrating my daughter's wedding (to her partner with pancreatic cancer). The week after it is off to London for my ex-sister-in-law's funeral. Staying the night in London. The next morning driving down to Dover and then having 13 days in France. Details of our trip in France will be boring you soon.

What a mix of emotions Baz. Like the wedding, don't like the illness. Don't like the funeral but like the trip to France.

how come my luggage is always growing to bigger and bigger piles? i will have to call a taxi tomorrow to bring me to where i get in the car, as even with mr. r's help i wouldn't be able to carry it all. but since there is a sand box at the camping place, i should take along some sand toys too, shouldn't i? and in the middle of potty training i can't leave the potty at home ... and since it is not sure everyone has and is bringing a rope, and i have two, i should bring both, right? and pro ... i have no idea whether there are bolts in the easier routes, so i should bring the pro i have ... and then there is the tent and the sleeping bags and the iso-mat and the harnesses and helmets and clothes and camping cooker and clothes and tooth brushes etc. etc. etc.

It is not possible to travel lightly with children. And when you are camping and climbing it is impossible. I think you have to look on the ropes as dual purpose then they earn their keep: primary use for climbing, secondary use for bondage.
