A month long road trip through Europe in the spring. Starting in Berlin and going to Prague, Budapest, Vienna then through northern Italy and ending up with a week or so in the south of France to park the car and relax for awhile. Anyone along the way to stop and see?

Anyone along the way to stop and see? We'll be in Treviso towards the end of July (but that doesn't count as spring, I guess).

Next month I'm going to Ibiza for a long weekend, to visit a friend and read and run a lot I hope...then I come back and go straight off to Prague for 5 days with the kids to visit my brother and his lot. Looking forward to that week of adventures.

We are off next Tuesday for our annual escape-winter holiday. Back in last summer I found that travelling to Bangkok on Qatar Airways from London was £600. If we travelled from Paris it was £350. No-brainer. So we will catch a flight from Bristol to Paris, then on to Bangkok. We have a few days in the Big Mango to acclimatise then head down south. Beach places, national parks, bird watching, island - I hope I have done my research properly.

Today we are off to Kaeng Krachan national park, or actually a guesthouse just on its border. This is a plc a much favoured by birders so Mrs Faz is excited.

We are in Baan Makaa, just outside Thailands largest national park. It is great. Birds are everywhere. The guesthouse is surrounded by jungle walks. There are numerous little lakes. At the moment we are waiting for our lunch to be coked and Mrs Faz is concentrating on a bird table shared between many birds and squirrels. Tomorrow are going into the park itself with another woman staying here with a 4 wheel drive and a guide.
Lunch has arrived: fried rice and chicken and a stuffed omelette. I think Mrs Faz is too preoccupied to eat...

leaving for norway tomorrow morning ...
even though it's just a long weekend, i have that pre-travel nervousness i always get ... worried they might not accept my handluggage (didn't book checked luggage and don't want to, as i want to catch the bus an hour after the plane arrives - so i stuffed everything including a very oldfashioned ski suit into my backpack and hope it is still small enough), hoping a. and mr. r. will get on alright (as my mom got sick, so the much-anticipated trip to grandma won't take place - which also means that a. will notice much more that i am not here, rather than herself being the one who goes away ...)
strange how i always get worried and nervous before traveling, no matter how often i do it and how much i love it ...

Rikita, with all the travelling I've done I still get nervous. There are so many people/officials that can say no to something or try it on or just ask a question I don't have an answer to. Mrs M can talk her way through things a lot better than I can. You're not alone.

good to hear i am not alone ... my nervousness usually disappears once i am there. i suppose in part being nervous beforehand is a way of my brain telling me to prepare for things ...

I always have a feeling of relief as soon as I'm sitting on the plane. But it's not until I'm through and out the airport at my destination, especially if I need a visa to enter the country, that I can properly relax. I'm always trying to be prepared for the unexpected and to make sure I have everything, every bit of paper and stuff, that I'll need.

and have you ever had any of these unexpected situations? i got into all countries i went to, so far (though there was a long hold up when crossing from romania to serbia 15 years ago, as they wanted us to pay the fee to enter the country only in currencies we either did not have or only had big notes of, hoping we just give them the big note and let them keep the rest, maybe), but a turkish friend with who i once traveled from turkey to bulgaria got turned away at the border. was kind of a strange feeling to go on in the train without her ...

It has just kind of sunk in how much travelling we will be doing this year, not that I am complaining, only now added it all to my diary and still missing a lot for the second half of the year:
Feb - Malaysia and Macau March - Manchester April - Lancashire May - London June - London again July - Bordeaux October - Malaysia for my 50th bday celebrations
August we will stay put in Portugal for sure but no idea yet what September, November and December will bring. The great thing is that Mrs H will be with me on all but my trip to Asia this month :-)
