Lucky me, came home on Friday....back into the heatwave... But anyway, dinner in the garden in England - well, that's too cold for me, I managed with an almost winterjacket while the english People sat ther in short sleves...and then, I slept well under two duvets Sunshine, you should have said about the duvets. I'd have given you a second duvet or a blanket. There was no need at your place, it only was up North, no worries.

On Tuesday we go to the Gower in Wales, staying above Rossili beach. Mrs Faz spent all her childhood holidays there in a tiny cottage they rented for £52 a year. She has wonderful memories of it - getting water from the well, lighting the lamps, days on the beach. Over the years it has been enlarged and running water and electricity installed. Her elder sister has rented it for a week and we are going for 3 days along with her younger sister. Mrs Faz is very excited but apprehensive about the weather forecast.

If I don't post for the next few days it is because there is no internet connection in the Welsh cottage. But there may be...

Scrubb, have fun on your trip and please report back. Papua New Guinea sounds very exciting!
I'm travelling now. A much needed break to the Dutch island Ameland. Been here before, so it's nothing new. I love the tranquility here, the sea, the tides and also enjoy being back in the Netherlands.

Beginning of December I will be somewhere under the water at the Great Barrier Reef. I have no plan yet. But I arrive on the first in the very morning in Melbourne and I have to be at work in Canberra on the 5th and between should be diving. any Ideas.... maybe.... someone....?

IT's touristy - but Cairns is really set up for it. AND they have boats that go out to the reef and have guided snorkel tours etc. There is also a good funicular ride up to the top of the Atherton Tablelands - with a stop to get out and walk thru the tops of the rainforest. Or stay at Green Island... or really any of the islands down the chain - resorts on most of them.

I agree with Voy - flying to Cairns is likely your best bet, because you don't have a lot of time. I'd try to get an ongoing flight from Melbourne to Cairns right after you arrive, and then you could arrange diving right away. dive the 2nd and the morning of the 3rd, then on the 4th you can fly to Canberra so you're there in time for work on the 5th. Cairns is really set up for it, and the reef is very accessible. It may be touristy and crowded but you don't really have time to get anywhere else. And there is stuff to do after you finish diving.
