leels, is the lack of excitement because you are returning to a place already visited when there are so many other places to see?

I'm not sure, shrjeff. I think it's maybe because I built the trip around this re-visit, rather than around a genuine pull to somewhere new. Usually I get an "I have to go to X!" feeling, either out of the blue, or in response to some sort of random stimulus. That didn't happen this year, and I'm not sure why. Maybe just too many stresses in my life at the moment to allow that moment through.
I'm hoping someone's going to come on here and tell me that Zanzibar is AMAZING and I'm going to love it.

Zanzibar is amazing and ........ well I went a couple of times in the late 90's and it was fine then. I understand you still have to watch out for the touts and pickpockets etc especially in Stone Town. The beaches were pretty good but I think a lot are now just for certain package hotels whereas when I was there, few were. It took a couple of days but I managed to ride a rented motorbike around the island using just the beach. Well as much as possible anyway. There were times I did have to cut inland.

We are off for to London for a few days on July 2nd, first for a conference for Mrs. H's company and then we are going to a country house hotel for a night with some of our closest friends, should be fun.

my antidote to stress is to cocoon in the states with old friends and family... don't need to do much of that lately, luckily, but was feeling some stress so scheduled a trip to california for next february - but the stress passed and now i'm a bit out of sorts that we aren't going someplace more exciting...

London, Germany and Prague (with a brief stopover in Seoul) in September. (well, we leave here end of Aug and get back at the start of Oct, but all the main fun bits are September)

leela, a friend of mine has family from Zanzibar. From what she says it is totally a place where i'd love to spend time.
Part of the interest for me would be the spices, etc. (now I'm going to read your post)

after I've read your post: oh, Zanzibar is only a small part of your trip.
You're probably going to have a wonderful time. this time your focus is different from your usual travels but it will be good.

I stayed at a place at Benaulim Beach in Goa last year. I posted a scathing review on the website I booked it through, maybe Holiday lettings, can't remember for sure. I've seen it is now advertised on Trip Advisor. So I submitted the same review as it was truly a dire place. Two weeks later my review has still not appeared. I've contacted TA to see what the problem is.

I've seen it is now advertised on Trip Advisor. So I submitted the same review as it was truly a dire place. Two weeks later my review has still not appeared. I've contacted TA to see what the problem is. Twice I have had bad reviews censored by TA. Once it was because I mentioned another site (Booking.com) which they said they did not allow. The second time they did not reply to my repeated requests to know why my critical mention of the treatment we were given was removed - even after the hotel had responded.

I've got a reply back from them. fat lot of good it is though. It says..
"Your submission has been pulled aside by the automated filtering system we have created to identify posts that either require special attention or may violate our content guidelines. The way that we process reviews is proprietary, so I am not able to offer details about exactly why your review is not published, nor am I able to publish it. We do, however, want to share your opinion with our travel community, and we encourage you to re-submit your post. It may be worthwhile for you to read our guidelines in advance of submitting, in the event that your review requires editing........"

Watch out for the new Zanzibar infrastructure tax $1 per night and I think there is also a arrival and departure tax there too now at $1 in and out. Was hoping to get to Zanzibar again myself this year as husband is going on a Tanzania educational this year which will include one of the products he sells for a week and a side trip to Zanzibar to see some accommodation but timing isn't looking good for me. I'd hoped to do a trip to either Kilwa or Lushoto and Bagamoyo whilst husband was on tour too, oh well. So it will likely be southern Namibia as my next trip for a couple of weeks sometime in Oct/Nov/Dec when we can get away.

Not sure yet slow - we can get over the border in a day and we want to see one of our friends who lives in the north, so we need to see where he can get to and for how long.

We have a number of small trips coming up, all in accommodation loaned to us. We are off to London this Sunday; then it will be Romsey in early August; then a cottage in Wales. Oh, I almost forgot, we are going to the Gower peninsula in September, staying in the house where Mrs Faz spent her childhood holidays. She is very excited though what was a cottage has been much enlarged and amenities such as electricity and running water put in. At the end of September we are going to Patara in Turkey for a week.
That's enough travelling until January when we are going to Thailand (via Paris).
All this travelling makes me seem a paler version of Jeff.
