Don't get eaten by the bears welle ! ;D Lol, funny you should mention that. Just got back from Yosemite a couple of days ago. I now have a cooler with a bear claw puncture mark in it. I had left it outside as it was empty-big mistake. Woke up the next morning to find it tipped over with paw prints and the claw mark in it. I also now can proudly say I chased away a bear. Sat at the campfire one night about 30 feet from the picnic table. Heard a noise, shone my flashlight. There it was, our not so little bear friend. It's head was above the table when it was on all fours. I puffed out my chest, walked towards it and yelled the way you're supposed to. I was ignored. Actually the bear came around the table towards me, thoroughly unimpressed. So I threw a drinking cup on the ground just in front of it-that sent it running. Phew! Yosemite has a real problem with the bears and food. You're not even supposed to leave things like toothpaste in your car as it might get broken into. Any food and any scented items are attractive to the bears. The campsites have metal bear boxes that need to stay closed at all times.

It was a great trip overall. Stayed for 6 days. Slept outside without a tent every night despite the bears. Went on some awesome hikes in pristine landscapes. Swam in mountain rivers and a high up mountain lake we had all to ourselves. I'm a big Yosemite fan now. The landscape is untouched almost everywhere. The water is so clear in the rivers it is like crystal.

starting to think i might not do my short trip to munich... feeling quite exhausted lately, and all the cheap train tickets were sold out ages ago of course, so i'd have to take the bus or go with car sharing, i.e. in a stranger's car... not sure i feel like a 6-7 hour car ride right now...

TAke it easy if you need to, Riki. 6 or 7 hours in a car with a stranger sounds stressful. I went with Mitfahr Zentrale from Hannover to Freibourg am Briesgau, and back again later. One of my drivers was lovely and I had a great time and we stayed in touch for years after; but the other driver was weird and it was a stressful day. Don't put yourself through that if you're not feeling up to it!
I just found out I'm going to London for a few days in October for work. I'm still trying to convince them I need to stay over the weekend!

Well, today my 2 days in London had 3 days in Paris added to it, so it looks like the whole trip will be at least a week. I'm not very interested in the work that I have to do in Paris, but it will be nice to have magret de canard again!

I might go to the cinema this weekend - that's about as much of a trip as I will be taking for a while I think. Mr lumi however is in Turkey once again and it's looking like he's never going to come home.

I am still only planning trips by surface travel in Europe for the moment, but I have informed the proper people that I will travel to Cambodia when Henning's ashes are scattered in the Mekong next spring if outsiders are accepted.
