Wankistan is more likely to be on my itinerary. Although I am (hopefully) departing from Fuckistan so will not need too spend too much time in Wankistan.

Tomorrow we are off for three nights staying with friends in the Loire valley. He is French, she is Scottish from Big Iain's home town. They have just moved into a converted millhouse with a lovely running stream (do we get trout for supper?). I don't know the name of the village but it is somewhere near Tours.

eff working so hard, I've had enough of being out in Asia and spending weekends bored. So, I've just take a Friday off my schedule next week and booked a long weekend to go diving on Pulau Redang, Malaysia. I felt bad on Mrs. H going without her but she says I need the break so should go and enjoy it. Now that it's booked I can't wait and am now looking forward to what was going to be another long lonely business trip. Well not as lonely as usual as I have a colleague with me this time. Here's where i'm staying, get there on the 25th in the morning: www.redangpelangi.com/

Thanks! I just wish Mrs. H could be there with me but then I enjoy diving (almost) as much as sex so at least I will not be totally deprived on this trip :-)

I just saw this program on telly about white water rafting in Chile. The views were spectacular. No electricity at the sites....to get to certain spots you trekked by horse.

In ten days it'll be our usual European summer trips to Spain, UK and Germany until the end of August. Then Lebanon in September. Spain, UK and Germany in October and I'm trying to see if I can slip out to India by myself maybe early next year.

Wow... that's quite some trips ! Our next trip will be Anzonico for 2 weeks end of June. Unless the weatherforecast is really really bad then we might just pack our camping gear and bugger off to south of France.

Not going- We were going to the Pacific Northwest next week, (Seattle, Vancouver, and Victoria) but I have just cancelled everything. Our one cat is finding it nearly impossible to go down stairs and is having many other health problems (we know he does not have a long time to live but we have been expecting his death since February and he keeps on going - with lots of love and attention). We had nearly decided not to go because of him when yesterday our diabetic cat had what I think was a low sugar reaction (first in 4 1/2 years) where she couldn't see and had other scary and unpleasant reactions. She is fine today but that reinforces; so I did all the cancelling this morning. We didn't want to leave them with my parents under the circumstances. The airfare will cost $150 for me (Stu was going on miles and I can cancel those without penalty) but I think that is the only cost. I am OK with it; we travel a lot. I am still going to stay on vacation and we will do local things like biking on an island near hear one day and kayaking on the pretty Huron river another one.

sunshine, how long will the walk take? Is it any of the long-distance hiking paths like the Trans Swiss or the Via Alpina?
I'm currently enjoying the annual visit to Germany and looking forward to a side trip to Wales in about two weeks.
