That's a good deal you got for the car, Mark! Will you buy a new one in Jordan?
In two days I'm off to Virginia, to look for a house/flat. A week later I'll be heading home to Germany from there, after 3 weeks at home I'll fly to Istanbul and stay in Turkey for 2 weeks. Then in July I'll be in Germany again and make a side trip to Holland to visit some family.

Nins, we'll buy a car but not a brand new one. And it wont be a 4x4 this time as we don't need one. The reason for the good deal was we bought it duty free and after three years if you are still the owner it automatically becomes a duty paid car. So it can then be sold as a normal one instead of there being a restriction on who can buy it. Unfortunately the regulations in Jordan wont allow you to do this. If it's bought as a duty free car then it always remains so.

We are going to be visiting the desert parks in north Utah in a couple of weeks. I work in Denver for a week and Stu will join me at the end of the week. Then we drive to Mesa Verde (in Colorado - an archeological site of cave dwellings - an entire rock city) and then to Canyonland and Arches National Parks (and a Utah state park) near Moab in red rock country. Should be beautiful and probabaly not yet too hot. It has been 30 plus years since I've been here and Stuart never has. It's beautiful country.

Do go to Zion National Park, suzanne, and do some narrows hiking. Some slot canyons are dry, others you wade in a stream, but all are gorgeous. Have fun!

We are off to Viña del Mar for the weekend. I have a significant amount of American Airlines miles that are about to expire, since lately I have always accumulated miles on LanChile. Unfortunately, I can't really take time off to redeem them right now or take a trip so I get some new miles and they avoid expiring. We decided instead to go to the Sheraon in Viña (supposed to me much nicer than the one in Stgo, wikki). I can accumulate miles with the stay, so then I have another 18 months to redeem them. It is 3 years exactly since we met, so we thought it would be a fun splurge. All the rooms have balconies with ocean views.

Myself, Mrs. H and our daughter are off to England today and will be spending 3 nights in Nottingham for my eldest graduation at Nottingham uni. His brither, who is working in Scotland at the moment for the summer is travelling down too and my brother and sister and sister in law and their daughter are travelling up from from Jersey to join us. So its a big reunion and everyone is very excited.
Its the closest thing we are going to get to a holiday this year so we will be making the most of it.

I'm off to our cottage in Ardfern on the 5th August for a week with CLB and the family. Its on the West coast of Scotland and its a great house in the country with views out to sea. Its also in a beautiful part of the country too. www.ardfernyacht.co.uk/pagex.asp?bioid=5357 is the webcam next to the marina.

The CLB and I are off to Blackpool this weekend! yes, Its an odd choice but there is a gold dealer there who is prepared to pay a very good price for some Krugerrands I am wishing to sell. For those who are not faliliar with Blackpool, simply googling it will not tell you just how tacky and downright sleazy it is there!

I'm off to London on the 12th for a few days with Mrs. H, the closest thing we will get to a holiday this year although I am tying just a bit of work in with it.
Then home for a couple of days in Portugal before leaving for a mini Asian whirlwind tour business tour: KL (for one day) Phuket (for one day), Hong Kong (for a few days), Shanghai (for 2 days) and then Macau/Hong Kong for a week or so.
No doubt I will be bored and lonely in the evening so I should be back with some daily drivel on the Pot.
It should at least make for some interesting "What's for dinner tonight" reading...

Bought tickets to Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. Amazing, they cost only US$200 a piece. I was not so excited, we would have preferred to go back to Colombia, but flights were too expensive. However, I have been doing some research and there is a national park called Amboró that sounds amazing, over 800 species of birds.

I have spent nearly a week in Santa Cruz de la Sierra because Bolivia was paralysed by strikes. It was very hot and humid and there were lots of mosquitoes. There were some streets of old wooden houses with boardwalks that I liked. I was picked up by an odd woman whose mother was a novelist (she gave me one of her books) and who had two cousins in the impending election. The older cousin Victor Paz was elected; the younger cousin Jaime Faz was president a bit later. Twice I was stopped by plain clothes police looking for drugs (or bribes) but they backed off when I flashed my El Salvador Press card (but that is another story).

I would be happy for some heat, this winter has been brutal. I don't think we will actually spend that much time in Santa Cruz itself. We want to head to Samaipata, which looks nice and also the park. We're also thinking of taking a tour to the Jesuit missions.

Gringa, it's that Amazonian humidity you won't appreciate. Just eating dinner I found sweat dripping off my forehead onto my plate.
