The Detective...
Black and White starring an early(ish) Kirk Douglas...
Great film and an even greater performance from Kirk - shame we only tend to remember him for his portrayal of Spartacus....
8/10...

Before the Sunset...
A romantic drama Starring Ethan Hawke, and a very talented lady dont know her name. (Julie Delpy)..
Nice movie built on marathon of dialogues, a definite worth who likes romantic dramas. A very unique one, loved it.
7/10

I really enjoyed The Cabin in the Woods. Very intelligent treatment of this tired old subject, for people who don't mind huge amounts of gore.

I was going to see that one, MrK but saw it was a '15' so didn't bother...an '18' and i'm interested..
.....the Evil Dead must have been so much better?....Or even the Blair Witch Project....?

Both of those movies were excellent (especially Blair Witch which created a whole new set of rules). But Cabin's interest is in trying to explain the rules, quite stupidly in a way, but the attempt is laudable. Without really spoiling anything, I will say that while at first the movie just presents one of the most trite and overused horrors ever, before it ends you get to see absolutely every element that has ever been in a horror movie.

I saw David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis today. I don't think it will win any prizes at the Cannes festival tomorrow, but it gave me a touch of hope for Robert Pattinson's career after Twilight.
Otherwise, it is pretty much just the usual David Cronenberg weirdness, mostly taking place inside a stretch limousine.

I saw On the Road today and am having quite a dilemma making a decision about it. Obviously, it cannot hold a candle to the book, but that was a given even before the shooting started.
I know that I disagree with what a lot of the critics said at the Cannes festival -- I hated some of the elements they liked, and I loved some of the things they criticized.
I don't think the film will be on the list of winners that will be announced in a few minutes, but in most of the world, the movie will not be released for another 3-6 months, so that should not be a problem.

Cronenberg still making dodgy Horror Films?...
Not the same as The Road that is on tonight?
Who wrote On The Road and why is it so good?

On the Road was written by Kerouac. How could it not be good?

I remember that I read the book "on the road" around 10 years ago and loved it. Always like the beatniks.

Same Dru55ed up To55er that wrote Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, I see!
And that film was as shite as the incomprehensible book was!

Nope, that was a completely different writer: Hunter S. Thompson.
Kerouac was long dead of alcoholism before Fear & Loathing was written.

Looking forward toPrometheus next week....
I do like a bit of Sci Fi every now and then.
How come the first 3 Star Wars films - the best ones - are never on TV?

Probably because the price is too high.
Promotheus is not bad, but there's nothing original about it. I was happy that the 3D was "window onto the other world" rather than "horrible slime splashing on you."

I saw Kill List today. Very disturbing and trouser-shitting cinema. But it already played in Britain last September and went directly to VOD in the U.S.

Have you seen Dead Man's Shoes? In my Top 10 films I reckon. If you haven't seen it, make sure you do!
I've taken it a bit easy recently with Ice Age 2 and American Pie - the Wedding!

To Kill a Mockingbird. Gregory Peck at his wonderful best and such a sad film. I must read the book again...
I've managed to download Intuchables AND worked out how to get the English Subtitles on it!
How good is that!
I'll watch it when the Olympics are over...

Came out in France first, followed by Australia. UK in November and Germany next February. No other release dates yet.

I love American music like that of that era and genre
Any Tamla Motown, The Ronettes, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Martha and tha Vandellas, The Supremes and, of course, Aretha...Smokey Robinson, Hendrix, The Temptations etc...
I drew the Line above Bob Dylan!
As regards the Sapphires - The Film - I may have to wait until it's on TV...
