A bit late to post this but anyway... On Saturday we drove to Birmingham and had coffee with a friend. Then on to other friends for lunch. In the afternoon we drove to a village outside Rugby to more friends. It was good to catch up. They took us out to dinner at the pub down the road from their house. The food was awful, just like it used to be in England 30 years ago. We wanted some wine so our host asked if the house white was dry or sweet. The pretty young waitress said, "I'm not 100% sure." I asked if she was 90% sure. She gave me a withering look and disappeared to ask. She came back to report, "I'm afraid it is not sweet."

‘Afraid it’s not sweet’.. that is passing judgment on them who asked!

I am resorting to drooling over fancy brochures about trips I can’t take.. I am starting to daydream about my first trip once I will be able to travel freely by air... so many choices!! I must be feeling better.

My next trip is coming up in 30 minutes. I'm driving all the way to a shop to return some clothes I didn't need and couldn't afford with money I didn't have.

Oh Nettie. But good decision if you don't need them. There will be other opportunities when you are in a better place financially. Hug.

We are off to our daughter's house in the Cotswolds in a few minutes. Back tomorrow evening. Fog was forecast which would have made driving unpleasant but looking out of the window it is cloudy but not foggy.

Ms. TFC screwed up her calendar check when we were planning next summer's year-delayed trip to Catalonia. She and a friend have precious tickets to "Hamilton" smack dab in the middle of our already-booked trip. It was touch and go, but she's agreed to sell the ticket and buy a replacement on a different date. The pricing for which reminds one of tulips in early 1637. I've checked DC, NYC, and Chicago, on multiple dates months ahead. Partial-view seats cost about US$ 400, good ones more than $1000.

just looked at the area for our alpine trip in july - it actually is the area mr. r. went to with his parents when he was a kid, one of his very few journeys abroad at that time and thus one that he still remembers a lot ... the area looks beautiful ...

We have just had an overnighter in Bath so that hardly counts. Now we are looking forward to our annual escape-the-winter voyage, leaving on 20 January. We'll be in Malaysia, then Bali, finally Lombok, arriving back home on 1st March when it is spring. Our 10 days in Malaysia start in Kuala Lumpur. Where is Hedonist when I want his advice?

You do know that the whole of Italy is on holidays in August, right?

I am reliably informed that waiters and chefs are not on holiday in Italy in August.

I don't know -- when we were in Rome and Naples during August '16, several of the waiters assigned to our tables seemed to have gone walkabout.

Off tomorrow morning. Out of the front door, turn left, 4 minutes to the bus stop (Annie knows this well) and catch the 8.40 bus to Bristol. Take the National Express coach to Gatwick. Flight via Istanbul to Kuala Lumpur. Ten days in Malaysia, 2 weeks in Bali and 2 weeks in Lombok. Back home at the beginning of March when the winter is over. Our little backpacks are all ready. I want to go NOW.
