Next Friday we are off for our annual holiday. No long haul flights. We are driving from here down to St Jean de Luz then along Spain's north coast, down the interior of Portugal to the Algarve (where we get to meet Hedon and Mrs H who are generously entertaining us). Then into Spain to Jimena de la Frontera where we have rented a small house for the month of February. Then driving back across Spain, arriving home on 2nd March. It is nothing like as adventurous a drive as Tilly's but it is still over 4000 kilometres (not including all the side trips we'll make).

Safe journey.
I leave Monday for my trip to Malta and Paris. Not looking forward to the longhaul but no doubt after a good glass of red, a couple of chunks of cheese and a baguette all will be forgotten.

Where are you going in Malta, Kus? A long time ago I had a couple of holidays in Gozo, renting one of the nice old stone farmhouses. It was lovely and peaceful with explosive interludes while each village had its fiesta. It was my feeling that Malta was probably the only place in the world where the British improved the cooking.

Baz I'm based in Valetta (found a nice apartment. The world is small - our cleaners son lives there so asked him to do a driveby and ensure that the bulding actually exists as google map won't give street level:)) I've booked a few day trips already including one to Gozo. As I have 12 days the rest will just be casual as and when I feel like it. The history interests me. Hopefully the cooking has improved ... but then I'll be cooking for myself most nights and maybe it won't have. Normally when I travel in the winter I have my main meal midday and have basics at night in an apartment or hotel. Italian seems all the food rage at the moment so I'm happy with that idea.

I remember that we bought excellent local ham. We had some peculiar Gozitan wine - stange brown colour and a taste that seemed to be a mix of whatever fruits that were to hand at the harvest such as prickly pears and figs. Soft drink that is worth a try is Kinnie.

try weisswuersten in the morning. As far as I see, sounds like it could go perfect along with vodka though, we will try to have some for the breakfast. Thanks...I had no idea what it was.

Just checked and the date is November, for some realtor's conference and expo, the prize is flight, hotel and conference pass for one but I will just buy one more flight ticket and join her, and hopefully if we have the time we'll take a few extra days at least to have a little break and see some of the area.
