Malta for two weeks in late Jan then onto Paris for two in early Feb. My last swan song trip as I should retire the year after - and this has been an expensive year.

Malta for two weeks in late Jan then onto Paris for two in early Feb. My last swan song trip as I should retire the year after - and this has been an expensive year. Shame we'll be away in Spain in Feb or we would have invited you. I hope you enjoy Malta. I've been twice to Gozo. They are very religious. The churches are amazing. They cut sandstone blocks that seem to harden over the years. A small Gozitan village had just built a church with the largest dome after St Peter's in Rome. They had a very reactionary Archbishop back in the 70s. He thundered against the immorality of females going topless on the beach. The girl he was ranting about was 3.

Baz - thanks for the offer. I'd love to have met both you and Mrs Faz. Do me a favour though and take the rain to Spain and dump it on the plain rather than leaving it in Paris. I'm looking forward to this trip and have been busy reading both historical and fiction books about Malta . I suspect it will have a little bit of so many places I love tucked into the fabric of it - Turkey, Morocco, Italy, France, Portugal and the Arab influence.
I promise not to go topless just in case the Archbishop is watching but perhaps it will be okay as I am no longer 3.

Today I went to Gourdon but that is only 21 kms from home so pales in comparisons to Jeffs globe trotting.

Almost forgot among all that is happening that I am off to the South Island for 7 days leaving next Friday. Will see big changes as I haven't been to Christchurch since the earthquake. Will be a bit of a bitter sweet visit in so many ways with people I know no longer there and buildings I worked in demolished and as yet not replaced.

Mark, the temperatures are forecasted to drop quite seriously during your stay. Don't forget your woollen longjohns! ;-) So I arrive in the UK, go to the house and find the boiler is kaput. Hence I now have no heating. I can buy longjohns from where............................?

and if you can find nothing else, go for women's tights. there usually are tables on the box to say which height/width they'll fit.

There is no way I'm wearing tights. I tried that when I had motorbikes and all of a sudden I started getting stomach cramps every month. There is a Marks and Sparks not too far away so that is a good idea. There is a Millets a bit further away which might be a better idea as I can swing past it on the way when I visit IKEA. Super stuff, muchas gracias.

so, are you covered, Mark?

Post by OnlyMark on Nov 18, 2013 19:29:28 GMT 2
Certainly. But I've been working hard and have to take layers off. If that's what you mean. It's cold in bed at night though. I need a hot water bottle.

all my previous boyfriends have nicknamed me variations on the COLD water bottle theme. One named me "Le mani della Morte" (the hands of death) I sleep with several layers on under a duvet with quilts on top. feeling warm ;-)

I usually sleep with little on under a minimum of cover. But after spending so long in warmer climes I fear my blood has difficulty coping with below ten degree temperatures.

On Saturday Mrs Faz is going to Cambridge and Birmingham. This is sort of proxy travelling so maybe it doesn't count.
