I was a guinea pig tonight. A friend of mine who has a restaurant invited me and another person who's opinion he values to sample a menu he and his chef has devised for a competition that will appear on Portuguese TV.

Well verdict yesterday was a good menu but I gave my friend and his chef quite hard time and hope that they will make some simple corrections to get it up to scratch and hopefully win the competition.
Cooking a simple curry at home tonight.

It is simply rice. Cooked with water and butter and sometimes with veggies.

Riki - what is sour celery? is the veg. itself sour? or is it a way of cooking/dressing it? sounds interesting. tonight will be a kind of stew/soup of left over chicken, roast veg, all in the left over gravy..

It's my birthday and our 21st wedding anniversary today. Always great because tomorrow (Oct 5th) is a public holiday here in Portugal. Leaving our daughter with her grandparents tonight and going somewhere nice for a romantic dinner.

Thanks for the congrats all! Had a lovely evening and weather was amazing, sat outside on a terrace with a beautiful view which is not usual here for this time of year. But weather has changed today. Sticking something on the BBQ at home today.

In honour of Pepe's marriage we had a Turkish meal tonight. As a starter we had mushrooms a l'armenienne (OK, not Turkish but Armenia butts up against Turkey). Then some kofte with a little bechamel in them; a cooked carrot puree with a sauce of yogurt, garlic, lemon juice and mint. Finished with a fruit salad of strawberries, figs and grapes. We can't buy Buzbag here so it was just ordinary red wine.

Iain, Mr Star would have been jealous of you and your Dad's pepperoni passion, I think he would live on that if he could... Tonight is Vegetarian Moussaka, think I went a bit heavy with the cinnamon and its gonna taste a bit
