We used to have Martha Gardner who had a lot of household tips. We had Shannon Lush on Radio 3AW. Both ladies gave beaut advice on removing household stains, how to defog your glasses when wearing a mask, or how to get grass stains out of a white skirt! While these are all good and terrific, I’d love to have a place where we can learn other stuff as well. Good word that, “stuff “ it can mean so many things.
Anyway, OP goes first. Here’s my tip..... Never have more children than you have car windows.

A tip about having children from a Catholic friend: Never let the little buggers outnumber you.

Before you press send/reply, wait a minute or more and see if that is really what you wanted to say.

Before you press send/reply, wait a minute or more and see if that is really what you wanted to say. on the other hand - once your mail to some office or similar is done, send it and stop thinking about it. so what, if they think you are a bit stupid for wording something the wrong way, as long as they understand what you want.

That's right, no problem - unless you are irritated or angry about something and you later realise what you've said is nasty and insulting. That fits better to the scenario of waiting a few minutes to give you time for second thoughts.

that is true ... always depends on the situation ... but if i didn't keep it in check, i'd end up sitting over a silly little email for hours and call several people to make sure that i am saying things exactly the right way ... those are rarely angry mails, though, i don't think i write angry mails very often ...

Agreed, riki. Although for official documents maybe better to fill the forms the way they want it. For job applications,.... showing yourself might be a good thing.

It relates not only to emails but forums as well. Nevertheless, we all have our own personal way of agonising, or not, over the exact wording of something. It may be that I underthink things whereas someone may overthink everything.
You see, that could be a polite way of saying I think you tend to do that and end up with a feeling of never quite finding the end of something to your satisfaction. It could always have been done better. That could be the way your mind works and we are all different, so no problem with that. It's just a difference, not a fault.

it may be that someone is planning not to have time to agonise over things so much in the near future. it may be that someone is writing the agonising down to do its own thing and have other more pressing thoughts occupy their mind?

My mind will sometimes hijack perfectly good sleeping time by insisting to think about the packing of stuff (going on currently) or not having bought a house yet... or .. or... could be one of many issues I am dealing with at the moment. Thus I am up and on my phone at some ungodly hour (in the region of 5 am) and playing word games or reading news of whatever. I am actually looking forward to the first part of the move, putting just about everything we own into storage and going to our rental house. It is fully furnished, close to a beach and dog park and great walks. I am planning to treat it as a holiday.

Sophie you are lucky to be able to be on the phone at an ungodly hour! If I did that I’d get hell blasted at me from the other end along with language suited to mobsters playing devil’s advocate.
If my phone rang at 5:00am, my first thought would be who died?

Netski - I think Sophie means she plays games on it, or reads the news = treats it like a computer/not ringing people up !

Treating the time in the rental as a holiday is a great idea. You need time to get used to all the changes that have happened, and also to rest and relax after all your hard work and the worry.

I am getting better at not worrying about a multitude of things, little and big, that either don't warrant such scrutiny or are in the past (e.g. email already sent) and it feels good. I still have a long way to go but definitely worth it.

If you are trying to lose some weight, leave the block of chocolate you bought on the front seat (or any other seat) of the car before going inside your home. That way, temptation has been removed. Believe you me, you won’t be bothered having to go outside to unlock the garage to get to the car to unlock it (the car) just for a block of chocolate.
There’s a block of Kit Kat sitting on the front seat - been there since Friday afternoon. It is now Monday morning.

We went to the Indian restaurant across the road tonight and son-in-law spilt some curry on his favourite T-shirt. Any tipa on how to get turmeric stains out of clothes?

Oxy clean == spray or soak - or both . Only thing I've ever had that will do curry, tomato or chocolate
