Apparently today is the day, in 1959, "the music died" (Buddy holly, Ricthie Valens, and JP "Big bopper" Richardson died in a plane crash)

I remember it - 3 of us were in Bambi's living room, with one of those huge wooden-cabinet radios when we heard it. I have actually been to the Buddy Holly museum - it's worth the stop - should you ever find yourself in Lubbock, Texas...

I remember it - 3 of us were in Bambi's living room, with one of those huge wooden-cabinet radios when we heard it. Bambi? Bambi? These was a couple here recently called their new baby Bambi, caused quite a stir, it was reported on the radio, people of which there were many, rang in giving their opinions, the majority of which was not flattering to the parents. Imagine lumbering the poor little tyke with Bambi Fury. That child has to go through thirteen years of school plus kindergarten. I hope she has lots of friends.

what is " Bambi Fury"? in this case it was a nickname for Barbara ( and a not uncommon one ) - from the book about the baby deer. It's now considered very "twee", and she is now called Barbara to all but those of us who have known her forever !

Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury head out for the first time with daughter Bambi as they enjoy family stroll MOLLY-MAE Hague and Tommy Fury have been spotted out for the first time with baby daughter Bambi in Manchester. The new parents headed out for a walk around their local area with their newborn in tow. Molly-Mae, 23, took the lead and pushed Bambi along in her car seat stroller, while boxer Tommy carried their very expensive baby bag - a Gucci GG Supreme worth over £1700. The former Love Island couple also matched in black jackets, and Molly teamed hers with leggings, grey socks and Ugg boots. The Youtube star looked lovingly at Bambi, having told fans she is absolutley obsessed with her new bundle of joy.

From the Guardian piece:

I don't like faith based nationalism and especially that it's taking place in India. Shows the terrible pain of the partition has unfortunately been carried through the generations.

Today is National Plum Pudding Day.
Chile formally declared independence from Spain on this day in 1818.

Did you know (obviously Netsie does) that Vegemite is 100 years old. Plus a few days. It hit the shelves in Melbourne on 25 October 1923.

Today is Scotland's National Day. The national animal of Scotland is the unicorn. We were in Edinburgh last month and saw no unicorns so we came back to England. The national animal of England is the lion and they can only be seen in zoos. However the national bird is the robin and we see them in our garden.

We have plenty of odd names round where we live Chipping Sodbury (Chipping is a market and Sodbury a fort). We have Ack Ack Farm (site of an anti aircraft gun in the last war), Petty France, Pennsylvania, Badminton (where the game originated), Dunkirk and my favourite Tiddleywink. This is a tiny hamlet and one of the houses used to serve beer to passing cattle drovers. Tiddleywinks is rhyming slang for drink. So first cattle drover: Fancy a tiddleywink? Second cattle drover: Don't mind if I do.
