I'd never heard of Wellington before (at least not in Florida) but it appears you are almost directly East of Fort Myers, across the peninsula of Florida. I wonder how many hours drive that is? Does that route have a name, like I-75 is Alligator Alley and US 41 is Tamiami Trail?

it's about 3 hours-ish. no name to the route. it's fairly borrrrinnggggg - and the towns at the bottom of Lake Okeechobee are really grim. - but it IS direct!

Too bad you're leaving before we arrive. Imagine you're well into the buttoning-up-for-the-summer stage, which I well know. Are you far enough inland to not worry about hurricane shutters and such-like?

Gobsie, you haven't even mentioned Turkey. Aren't you going there to see Babycura?
I'll be arriving in Istanbul on 14 September for a few days, then going back to Konya for the summer mini-festival. Might be joining a friend there. Her husband died last year and I'm trying to pursuade her to come as I know it would do her a lot of good meeting some of my Turkish friends there.

she drives - not wanting to have to have two vehicles. she is home. she is very happy to be home! and soon to start her new veggie garden - before a swift 3 days in NYC for a TTYC pissup, and then two days in Saratoga over Memorial Day for my goddaughter's wedding, and then England and Scotgland from June 10-30...

Looks like I will probably be going back to Macau and Malaysia in October. Had some crazy business ideas that seem to be taking shape so it may become a regular thing :-)

We are going to the Valais in Swissieland next week to stay in friends' chalet.
Hedon, if your crazy business ideas take you to Malaysia in January we are going to be in Penang from 25th Jan for maybe 4 days before crossing over into Thailand.
