It is a wonderful sunny morning. I have packed a picnic and we are going to Bath. Bath is quite strange with no tourists. Yikes, we are leaving the house in 5 minutes to catch the bus.

I am leaving home, third day in a row, to make the house available for viewings. Over 50 viewings scheduled by Monday afternoon..Tuesday we will know what we will be getting.. sounds like there will be multiple offers and a bidding war. We also found a place to rent for a few months to wait for the real estate market to cool as houses in the areas we want to buy in are going for $100 000 - $300 000 over the list price. That crazy won’t last.

wow! wishing you the best buyer buys it.
Today, I've been on the terrace, trying to sort a few things, but really being a lizard.

I hunted for my glasses, which I fear I have really lost perhaps in the metro yesterday. On the bright side, I have been wearing them very little due to the covid mask fog and discovered that I need them a lot less than I thought I did.

That crazy won’t last. we have been reading that due to covid reducing spending, those with secure income are seeing an increase in savings resulting in real estate going up in price... obviously your slice of the market is proving that... the question is how soon will this resolve itself? i assume that first covid has to be under control so economies will reopen and people will return to traveling to soak up their excess funds...

Today, well I was going to go to a shopping mall to buy a new dress 👗 which is 30% off this weekend, but I can’t be bothered!
So ....I will pay for it over the phone ☎️ and have it delivered - delivery is free because I am a “Diamond “ customer.
Ergo, today I will be doing bugger-all!

We have been enjoying exceptionally fine weather this week so we are taking advantage of it. Today we are walking from home in Chipping Sodbury up to Old Sodbury. We'll take a picnic and sit on the bench by the church with a fine view back down to CS. Then we'll walk back down the hill and across the fields. We have had no rain for a week so the mud should have dried.

finally got started on making things for my "textile" room in the "dollhouse" -- made a wool basket, a flax break, and two hetchels -- that I'm not really very happy with..

Voy, what is a hetchel please?

Post by Voy on Mar 1, 2021 20:25:19 GMT 2
I'll post a pic in a minute.. Hetchels are thing with spikes sticking up, used in multiples from huge to quite fine, to pull out the fibers in the flax plant to then be able to spin and make linen .

So they are like teasels.
|
|
|
Post by Voy on Mar 2, 2021 15:39:05 GMT 2
yes ! and teasels can be used for silk - as when fresh the little spikes are flexible -- Old nursery rhyme: Round and round the mulberry bush, lalalala the monkey chased the weasel, lalalala pocket full of teasel... All about making silk ! I don't know about the monkey, but a weasel is a contrivance to measure the spun thread ( any thread - wool, linen or silk -and cotton ) where instead of counting each rotation by hand ( a niddy noddy) or by the reel ( and each of these measures 2 yards ) and losing your mind ! there is little thing on a large gear that makes a click after so many rotations... that's the weasel going "pop" and it will save your sanity because that's all you have to keep track of.

I am sitting around waiting.. for all the offers on our place to be presented this afternoon. We have multiple offers. It is a good thing. I am glad i went on a decent hike this morning with the dog. I don’t think I could manage another one. Nerves are shot.

if this worked -- it's a weasel off the front is the thing with 4 arms that make 1 yards in circumference Attachments:

after this one we will move on to something completely different ! -- if you enlarge the weasel, you can see on the big toothed wheel a little naiil ( at about 11 o'clock; as you crank it ( crank hidden on other side ) the nail goes round to the back and comes thru and clicks the thin piece of wood on the front of the upright - which is broken off and won't pop anymore, but you can see how it worked. The alternative is the NiddyNoddy (https://www.google.com/search?q=niddy+noddy&oq=niddy&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0j46j0l2j0i457j0l4.4973j0j15&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8) -- which you have to keep track of every turn... insanity.

And our place is now sold. yay! now for another stage in your life... i know that you are considering renting until you find something you want to buy... may i suggest (from our own experience) that at this stage it may be more advantageous to just rent... moving really sucks so that way you can rent a place which meets your needs well and if things change, moving to another rental later on is much less of a problem... our decision included that as we are getting older and the eventual demise of one of us is real, all our money is in accounts with right of survivorship so there will be no need for probate for the survivor to survive... we have heard horror stories... and then you can spend the excess funds on travel [that's the social worker in us which led us to this program!]
