i worked from home and brought a. to speech therapy.
a. didn't have normal class today, but what they called "aktionstag gegen rassismus" (i think they did that last year on may 8th, too) - they had some workshops and group discussions, and then the whole school (if the parents agreed) did a demonstration against racism - the kids had participated in organising it and made their own posters and all ... i heard them starting during my lunch break so went to have a look at it - it was only their school, so a few hundred elementary schoolers ... (the message of the demonstration was very general, because schools of course aren't supposed to take sides, politically).
at speech therapy, she had her first complete session with the other girl - hopefully it can continue ... at home, she tried out the piano, trying to play some of her trumpet and recorder pieces on there while i made dinner ...

I have had a sore on my lower lip for 4 weeks now, went to the dermatologist in Fl - he thought coldsores, did a course of steroids - no change. then a course of antibiotics -no change. Now home in Maine and it's still there and I am afraid it's a cancer. Saw my "real" dermatologist this morning. He doesn't think it's cancer ( whew !) but took a biopsy --owwwie. I have a painful Ubangi lower lip ! And while I was there he zapped some little places - on my forehead, nose and both cheeks... we will draw a veil ( I wish literally ) over what I look like !

Very soon recording Talking Newspaper for the Blind. Then because it is another sunny day we are having another picnic. We are going to Dyrham Park, a grand estate we used to work at. Mrs Faz sold raffle tickets, by far the most successful they have ever had (Head Office doubled up the money she made so over the 5 years we did it she was worth £50,000 to the National Trust). I gave out samples of tea, coffee and hot cocolate and gave a little talk on each - these went down so well that one visiitor even kissed me. Covid put a temporary stop to this. When Dyrham Park reopened it had all got bureaucratic with forms and tests to do the stuff we used to do. First Mrs Faz stopped. I tried a bit longer. I spent an entire day (no kidding) on this bureaucracy. When I discovered that was only the start of the nonsense I too gave up.

met with a's friend and her family and another kid from their class and his family at the playground in the park and had a picknick there and then went to a quieter meadow, trying to get the kids to go and play so we adults can relax. there was an outdoor cinema nearby, so in the later evening you could hear sounds from there and we got the kids to go to the fence to try if they can see something ... later at home, we watched a movie (kung fu panda 3, as a. decided she wants to see kung fu panda 4 at the movies tomorrow, but that she needs to see 3 first) ... anyway, at the park it was quite nice and warm today ...

I should have been arranging our Switzerland visit. Instead the impending visit of our vegan friend has taken up the chef's day. And Mrs Faz has been getting the house and garden immaculate.

Ran to and from Mom's this morning g - over 9 km altogether - visited my friend's bakery and got a cake for Mr_S 's birthday - went to my brother's to check on and feed his cats while he's away for the weekend - grocery shopped and got an orchid for my MIL - went to a 60th birthday celebration for the woman who was my best friend growing up. We drifted apart after starting university and only ran into each other occasionally for years, but then connected on Facebook. Best part was catching up with her sister. And the tacos.

yesterday, we went to my mom's (and my brother's and his family's) place, to spend the afternoon/evening/night there. watched a documentary about frida kahlo with my mom and a. in the evening. today, my brother and family and a. and i went back to town together, to meet my little brother and my dad and lots more family and friends in a park to celebrate my little brother's birthday. we were in the bbq section of a nearby park, there aren't that many areas where it is allowed, so there was a lot of smoke from the different barbecues, but it was fun ...

First Collections committee meeting ! we will hit the ground running - doing two major new exhibits - the one at the Old Jail will be majorer - as we are going to feature the family of the jailer - who lived in the attached house - the family we are featuring ( 1880s) had 7 kids !
At the Courthouse we have just gotten back a restored painting by Henry Cheever Pratt - and will make that the center of a whole thing on Pratt, as we probably have the biggest collection of his paintings anywhere. This one will probably gain more exposure, but will really just mean re-hanging some of them and making labels.

Perhaps a word of explanation why I mentioned she was transgender It is because she constantly talks about it. When she talks about her friends in Michigan (none of whom we know) it is always in relation to her sex change and how they reacted and maybe they don't realise. She is incredibly self-centred. We ask questions about where she has been staying in north Wales; she never asks about our winter stay in Italy. People normally show interest in an author's books; not her. Luckily I found her bumbag (= fannypack) where it had been dropped on the floor or she'd be coming back

I have spent the better part of an hour looking up information and pictures on/of bull ants, blue bottles, and centipedes. Don’t ask me why, I do not know why, nor do I know what started me off. It has been quite informative. If there is a competition in the new future about creepy crawlies, I expect I’d be a strong contender for first prize!

Yesterday was mother's day, as sophie said, so we spent time with both our Moms. After a late lunch with my Mom, we went on a nice bike ride and I finally saw a frog - first one this spring.
It was Mr_S's birthday too, so I made one of his favourite meals for dinner. It's marinated chicken grilled on the BBQ - the marinade is a combo of herbs, ginger, soya sauce, sesame oil, etc., and the chicken is always really, really tasty. I also bought a delicious raspberry tart for dessert.

Today, I'm currently trying to force myself to start working. I'll need to go pick up my keys, which I locked inside my brother's house this weekend; meet a friend for coffee; and return a housecoat to a shop. I wasn't sure which size would fit my Mom so I bought 2 and need to return the one she didn't keep.

All sorts of last minute things which need doing before tomorrow’s surgery. I won’t be driving so all kinds of errands got done. I managed to squeeze in a one km swim, and had one unexpected errand. My cryotherapy machine started leaking and I had to buy a new one. At this point I wasn’t going to try and fix it or even deal with it. I also had to orient our home care aide on what her duties will be.
