this afternoon, I was unpacking/checking goods at the shop. We're working to make it ready for reopening in a few weeks. (hopefully)
Because I wasn't sure of timings this morning, I was not productive.

I found a form... can't figure out how to save what I got put into it for the first question ( It looks pretty good )... called geeks. hah. so here we are this morning about to start again. the " f " word WILL be used...

Got up when my alarm rang, did my morning yoga, shower, then got ready and took the early train to continue what we've been doing at the shop with my colleague (sorting through the stuff that has arrived and finding space for it). We've got another two full days of it at least, as we need to re-do the picture windows and prep the inside of the shop for reopening, whenever that will be.

We went to the recycling centre to get rid of a defunct vacuum cleaner. Since we were down that way we bought 3 bags of compost for the seed sowing ahead then picked up the replacement hoover (as Mrs Faz always calls it even though it is a Dyson). She walked home while I did a shop at Lidl for the things that are much cheaper than Waitrose. That was the morning gone. We'll have lunch in a bit. Then Waitrose will do a delivery.

after sharing lunch with my parents, I got rid of the bin bag and now I need to start doing things like ironing or sort through old admin papers.

It's the Thursday routine. This begins with Alexa telling us at 7.15 that it is Thursday (so Mrs Faz doesn't forget to take her once a week pill}. After breakfast I have to remember to get out the curry ingredients from the freezer. Then we record the local newspaper which is sent out to blind people. It is unfortunate that the reporter is hopeless, makes everything sound dull and never checks her copy. In a few moments now we'll have a walk when we pick up litter. After lunch we go to our garden room and Mrs Faz does crosswords and I read a couple of chapters and have a snooze for 20 minutes. Then it is another short walk to get some fresh air. Mrs Faz cooks dinner which we sit down to eat at about 8.15. We always drink a toast to anyone who has a birthday (including Potters). I wash up. Then Mrs Faz reads 2 days from one of the journals she writes when we go on holiday (currently we are reliving our stay in La Herradura on the Costa Tropical in Spain in 2019). After that we watch separate TV programmes (so we don't inflict our taste on each other). Bed about 11.15.
That is the routine during lockdown. The only variant from normal times is that we used to drive 30 minutes to a recording studio to record the Talking Newspaper for the Blind. Now we do it at home because the recording studio is closed. We send it off to a techie and he puts it all into shape to send off to our eager listeners.

I will, as usual, take the dog for a walk then come home and eat my oatmeal, then take her for a hike. Today I won’t be driving anywhere as the roads are a bit icy and probable I’ll be for the next few days. I think it will be a good day to curl up with a book or two.

today was pretty typical... began by sitting with a student who is getting a scholarship to get caught up on how he's doing... interestingly his cousin asked for a laptop a couple of days ago and we scheduled her for next week and he enthusiastically told us how he told the cousin all about us... we then went out to drop off some supermarket vouchers for families who are laid off with the unit who distribute for us so we are not exposed... then on to the computer store to pick up 11 laptops... in the afternoon we sent out a letter to those on the waiting list for laptops to get updates... and so life goes on...

I can only echo what Voy remarked, Jeff... you all do such important work, especially at this time with the supermarket vouchers.
Sophie, enjoy your lazy day. you'll have to tell us about your other half, too... thinking of you two and of Betsy of course.
For my part, I did very little today. I had a blast working on Voy's new spreadsheet, and getting to talk "live" to her!!!! Now it's evening and it'll be an early night. I was shattered after several days of intense work at the shop. Needed a day off.
planning much more activity tomorrow and Saturday.

I've got friends coming for supper on Tuesday. What is supper please Voy? Over here not everyone has supper. In fact, it's healthier to NOT have supper. We have tea of course. There's tea, and there's tea, but they're not the same.

There's tea, and there's tea, but they're not the same. merkins have many meals during the day: breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and supper... my dimly recalled merkin lingo implies that supper is a lightish evening meal, in contrast to dinner which is a multicourse pig out... of course, in maine the slang terms may be different...

Jeff is right - for most of us Merkins, supper is the evening meal. where dinner is a more formal version. having someone over for supper just means they are having what you would have anyway, in my house a main course and some dessert. no starter, no special dinner rolls and butter on the table etc. tea for us might( if it exists at all) be a cup in late afternoon with some cookies or so. unlike Oz where tea is supper ! or that version, in England would be High tea -- unlike here where they don't have a clue and think high tea is a extra elegant kind of afternoon tea.. good grief, it IS a common language but separated by TWO oceans !
