Thanks for the links there Peps. What is the Best Town Palace Hotel like? It's in The Old City apparently and is doing a good deal... There are a few flights from Bristol to Ataturk and all involve a stop over somewhere - normally Charles De Gaulle. I could do the following: Saturday 4th - 06:40 leave and arrive in Istanbull at 14:25 local time...Return? Monday 16:45 and get back in Bristol at 21:35 Ideally I'd like more time in Istanbull so may well fly over, early, on the Friday and have 3 nights there. I see that you work until 1:00pm on the Saturday so I could keep myself busy and meet you up after work on the Saturday? Daft question but What time does it get dark there? I am not a vampire! It looks like transport from the airport into Taksim Square is fine and then there is the Metro and trams? How far is Taksim Square to Sultanahmet or is that where it is?? As regards Football, I see that You lost to Galatasary recently, away? www.talksport.co.uk/magazine/virals/2011-11-21/video-former-arsenal-defender-emmanuel-eboue-abused-besiktas-fansIs that normal or Racist action from the Besiktas fans?

I dont know the Best Town Palace but I will go and check the place and write you about it.
Saturday-Monday plan is perfect, but if you chose to come on Friday, you should tell me the times and I can tell you what are the possibilities. I work on Saturdays till 1 pm, the most of them are comfortable in terms of time, so I can come late or leave early, if there is no extraordinary work here. But surely, I will be meeting you at least 13.30.
I dont know when it get gets dark the times you plan to visit but, I guess, it would be around 6 pm at that time. But that's just a rough guess.
The transport is fine, true. Yes you can use the trams.
From Taksim Square to Sultanahmet you would spend 45 minutes by walk, if you keep the tempo you can finish the walk in 30 mins. I guess... I would be giving you instructions for transportation within the city if I cannot arrange a pickup from the airport.
Oh yes, we lost away. That was a poor night, we played very bad. Our manager tried a new tactic and a system, I dont know where he got that shitty idea from but that led us to lose I thing. We played a tactic never ever we played before, 4-6-1-0, without a striker and just an attacking midfielder in front....Lost 1-3...Galatasaray won over us after 5-6 years of without a winning. Fener fans did not get upset, because of that serie we never lost them in recent years, but considered that as a gift to our wife...;D
The Besiktas fans, that's pretty normal..nothing to do with racism at all.

Geeks, I have stayed at that hotel several times 6-7 years ago. I would never recommend the place...I could not recognize it because the name change.
I remembered it when I went to visit the place to check for you if it is ok, last evening. The guy (Ali) at the reception told me that the hotel has changed hands in june and renovated. I could see that, rooms were new, tidy and clean. That hotel was used for business purposes by the ladies who serve for men in the past...............(aha!) I asked Ali if this kind of business still goes on, he told me an absolutely no.
For the related dates he offered me 35 € ( as an old customer ;D ), I dont know the deal you got though.
This is a stayable place, location is fine...I would look for another options if I were you, but if it will bother you some antother search you might want to stay there, acceptable place. One additional note: you should ask for a non-smoke room with a sea view.
And keep in mind that, it is not that hard to find any other place in a moment if you do not feel all right with the place when you see it.

Peps!?...I assume that the first 2 paragraphs are a joke?
Is that 35E a night or for all 3?
I get it now! Taksim Square is the main 'Tourist' area and where the Havas Shuttle can drop me off?
Sultanhamet is South and the Old Quarter and, like you say, 30 minutes away on foot?
I say that I land on Friday and get the Havas Shuttle into Taksim Square and get a Hotel slightly South and overlooking the Bosphorous?
Then, I sort myself out on Saturday and meet you up somewhere in Sultanhamet after you finish work?
Or whatever you prefer?
I can see some sights walking between Taksim Square and Sultanhamet on the Saturday morning?..
Let me know what your thoughts are......

No Grecs, not a joke at all. Pure naked reality, you found a hotel where hookers used to hang out....Not now though, 35 € is a night.
Yes, Taksim is some kind of central and where Havas Shuttle will drop you. Sultanahmet, not exactly south but, is 30-40 minutes on foot, and there you cannot find a bosphorus view but a golden horn view.
Please tell me, what is the estimated time for arrival on Friday to Ataturk ? Depending on that, we will make the plan.

Looks like I will land on Friday and get taken to Taksim where I will arrange an Hotel?...
I really do not want to worry you until you knock orf Work after 1+ pm on Saturday so....meet up then?...Sultanahmat?
I think that My Walk from Taskin to Sultanahmat on the Saturday morning will be Cool?.....
My first time in Istanbul....

OK, I do not insist...but, you should tell me the times you are arriving, and no worries, if I'd be suitable, I would love (and be keen) to arrange a pick-up and take you to your hotel.
A walk from Taksim to Sultanahmet is not only cool but an awesome choice, I also still do it after doing the same thausand times and still enjoy. So, it is a great idea for Saturday Morning for you. I can meet you at Sultanahmet and we will plan after according to our moods.
Will you have a mobile phone with you ?

Nice one, Peps!
I really do fancy trying and attempting the Havas Shuttle to Taksim on Friday and settling there and having a great meal on the Friday evening...
If you are that Keen and with 'Love' that you could pick me up from the airport then that is very fine! Better but I really don't want to put you out! See above about not staying!...;-)
Taksim is New and Sultanamet is Old...And the 45+ minute walk looks like it could give me an indication as to what Istanbul is slightly about; with the River and Architecture etc...
Mobile phone is a Given but I don't do Roaming...Whatever that means!
Looks like i've sorted the place to stay now...Flights tomorrow and will let you know...

Great. I am happy that we are moving on.
Taksim is not so new believe me. You do not have much possibility to find new places around here...but yes, you will have a good vision of the city by that walk and you may expect.
You should do roaming, our communication is a must. You could call the operator company of your phone and request help for that ! oh yes.
Did you book the place ? where is it ........let me knooooooooooooooow !

I opened your link, AA, and haven't got a clue what it's all about! I don't get on with mobile phones at the best of times...
The Sheraton will be out of my price range but good for you for getting it on a Freebe, MrK
Apologies, peps!
I have been 'ill' for some days - nothing too bad but just made me feeling 'Meeeh' , listless and devoid of Oooomph!
I have set aside tomorrow to book the trip up so expect some news tomorrow!
I see the Big 3 are at the top again and close!
What is it about Eskisehirspor in 4th? I must admit that I have never heard of them....

No worries, wish you get better soon ...
We lost the leadership after being defeated by those G.Saray, and found ourselves as finishing the first round in the second...We expect to transfer a bettter striker and more energetic midfielders very soon...and...a new talent has gained the team at the defense line...a very very good defender we have now which will increase our total power..
Eskisehir is a team with a history "within Turkey" but was not doing well recently...their manager is a nice guy and seems he is getting at it...a good example for a teamwork there I guess.
How is your Exeter doing ? Mine at the F.Manager game is doing pretty well right now and heading to a promotion...finances and youths has been settled and started to give performance...I could lead the team to premier league, if I only could find more time to play !

Well that was Simples!
is it just me or when you buy a ticket for anything on the Interwb - whether it be flights, train journeys, tickets to gigs etc...It is so nerve racking? Like you keep looking at the dates and times etc and flipping back to a handy calander to make sure that the dates are correct and then, just before you press the 'Payment' option, you look again...and then after you've put your payment details in and before you press the 'Confirm' button, you just have to check the whole lot again??...
Anyway, tis done!
Flying out on Friday 3rd at 06:15 from Bristol and arriving at Ataturk at 15:30...Via Schiphol...
I thought that 3 days wasn't enough and fancied exploring a tad on the Monday after the Fenerbache win so leaving on Tuesday 7th at 16:45 and arriving back in Bristol at 21:35....
That's the tricky bit over and now to find a nice and cheap Hotel in Taksim overlooking the Bosphorus..
I just want a bed there not even Breakfast or evening meal...
Any ideas for the bed, Peps?...

NO, it is not only you...I do the same most of the times ..
Finally you did it ! ;D Congratulations..
It is really difficult to find a cheap hotel overlooking the bosphorus !
Let me check the alternatives for the bed, and give me a day or two for that....

Peps! Apologies! No excuses as they are not worthy for you but sorry for the delay in replying!
Thanks for your links above but they are between what I was hoping and expecting to pay - a tad 'Hippy'?...
I'm getting old and need a certain amount of 'Comforts'!
Planet Paprika looks the best and is a 'Possible' though. I'll dive in tomorrow and have a look at cheap Hotels nearer the River?
I really appreciate your help on this.
Is the Match 'All Ticket'? You can get tickets?...
Apologies again and I am looking forward to the trip!
