Tonight we're going out to the restaurant round the corner. The three days we were in Otranto we ate nothing but pizzas as all the restaurants were closed. Why should they be open? We were the only visitors in town and the locals must obviously be happy with pizzas.

The kitchen is so awful that cooking is minimal. At the market we bought ready cooked kebabs and potatoes. Also broccoli. There is no saucepan to give the broccoli a 3 minute blanch so I used a frying pan. Then just a burst in the microwave for everything to warm it up.

At the market yesterday we also bought a ready cooked chicken. We had one a couple of weeks ago. Delicious. We also bought roast potatoes. It's not my idea of cooking but given our awful kitchen it does well.

Tonight our hotel (it has 18 rooms, possibly half are occupied) is having a Valentine's Dinner. I wonder if outsiders will come.

We have picked up a menu for tonight's Valentine Dinner. Our hotel's restaurant only serves fish (no meat). Starter tuna carpaccio with passion fruit and papaya (not grown in Italy I think); risotto G'uasto d'amore with shrimps, beetroot and burrata (Google tells me G'uasto d'amore is a song); seared crispy tuna with walnuts and gorganzola; cream tart with raspberries. Wine included. Live music with Mino and Anna.
I am more than a bit confused about the live entertainment. Google says that Anna (of Mino and Anna) has died, aged 97. Another reference is to a married couple of entertainers living in Bari. Another is to a Mino and Anna TV show. Another shows quite young entertainers. Anyway since dinner doesn't start until 9 pm, Mrs Faz and I may have crept off to bed before the duo arrive.

The Valentine dinner was a good evening. Food and wine were good and the duo entertained us but not raucously. We were the last to go to bed.

Dinner tonight for us (three people) was an Indian takeaway. Was pretty good. There was - Channa Chaat, Punjabi Chaat, Papads/Poppadums, Mixed Raita, Paneer Pakoras, (veg.) Samosas, Butter Chicken, Chicken Tandoori Murg, Alu Gobi Masala and a load of basmati rice. We do have a few leftovers but not much. There are a few Indian restaurants in the town but there is only one that does the chaats, which is my favourite Indian food and what I eat a lot of when I am there. It's very rare to come across a restaurant not in India that does them - probably because they are not restaurant food but street food. You don't find them in restaurants in India anyway.

We'll have a pizza. There is a really good pizzeria not from us in Lecce. We have decided which one we'll have and Mrs Faz will shower first and go and fetch it.

Earlier today I sent a Whatsapp to Mrs M at work asking if she had any preferences for dinner. Her reply was - "Starter: Big hug á la Mark, followed by selection of cuddles, as desert a soufflé of sweet kisses."

It is our last night in Lecce. We'll go to the restaurant round the corner. When we came here 5 weeks ago it was the only place open. Now there are a few more tourists and eating possibilties are improving. But we like this place. Also we should get tiramisu as the manager says the woman who makes it will be back from a bit of a holiday. I like it that the tiramisu is home made and not from a factory.
