It seems that on Monday night most restaurants near us are closed. Still, we were only after one open one and it was fine. We had bass fillets cooked in the local fashion and an aubergine dish and a dessert. We shared everything which we have observed is the local custom.

Same dinner two days in a row because I cooked way too much. Luckily Mr.Nin commented "Oh, I could eat this every day!" We had rice, minced pork, mixed veggies, topped with a hoisin sauce & peanuts & ginger & mint leaves & koriander. Pretty easy to cook with a fantastic result.

Around here Sunday and Monday nights can be a real challenge to find a restaurant that's open. Good that you found one! The other problem is that this is not summer and most places are closed. The restaurant we ate at is open 7 days a week. There seem to be no other ones open. However a hopeful sign today was the fish restaurant very close to us had its front door open. Maybe they are contemplating opening soon.

Baz, I suspect many places close for most of January after 6th January. they will be very happy with your custom once they reopen for the year.
Although google maps seems to think most restaurants are either open now or will open by 7PM...

It's Thursday but Mrs Faz is not making curry. I think we'll have a take-away pizza.

It's Thursday but Mrs Faz is not making curry. I think we'll have a take-away pizza. We did indeed have a pizza from a nearby pizza place. It very nearly turned into a disaster. We got it home, sat down at the table, poured the wine and were just about to dig in... Hold it. The pizza isn't cooked. We have never come across a take-away place selling uncooked pizzas. Suppose we had wanted to have a picnic in a park. Shan't go there again.

I haven't cooked anything yet but I am edging towards it. We have bought frozen breaded fish so I'll be frying that tonight plus a salad. One disincentive is the kitchen which is very small and gloomy and as a previous guest said in a review obviously not intended for any serious cooking.

Red peppers (not bellpeppers, the pointy ones) stuffed with feta, yoghurt and parsley. My BIL remarked they are rather sweet peppers.

I don't want to use the oven here because if I do I can't use the microwave. So we bought a roasted chicken which I'll cut in pieces and reheat in the microwave together with ready roasted potatoes. Courgettes and tomatoes. And we have bought cannoli. I hope they are as good as the ones we had in Sicily.

otherwise, you'll have to come visit and we'll go to the sicilian pasticeria in town. their cannoli are ace. and everything else they make.

Last night we had more of the roasted chicken reheated. I also microwaved slices of aubergine and topped them with yogurt and garlic. That is about the limit of cooking here in this pathetic kitchen.

We're going to a restaurant tonight. There is a Greek one we've seen. They even have retsina.

The Greek restaurant was closed. It was back to the resto just round the corner. They know us well. Same wine? we are asked. Yes.

We have bought frozen fish fillets and frozen sweet potato croquettes, I'll be venturing into the dismal kitchen but it shouldn't be too difficult to cook those and have a bowl of salad. Mrs Faz talked about getting some gelato but that seems to have died. Shame.

I bought fresh pickerel fillets (which are not common in this area.. we typically get ocean fish rather than fresh water ones) so I searched through a variety of recipes and found one which I will make later. Most of the pickerel recipes are for frying the fillets and I prefer not to fry if possible.

We had a take-away from the "Greek" restaurant. The woman spoke no Greek, the food was not authentic (except for being lukewarm), and we shan't go back again. However when we got back home and sat down Mrs Faz put on Radio Gavdos so we had Greek music. Gavdos is a small island south of Crete. Its radio station is the most southern in Europe.
