For fashionable men's clothes: The store is called Rolo and is on Market street. There is also an outlet store in SOMA that has some women's clothes but most of his stuff is higher end men's wear. www.rolo.com/

One of my fave places is the Wave Organ. On my first morning in SF I woke really early and could not get back to sleep, so went for a walk from the appt on Chestnut down to the waterfront. I happened, by accident really, to find this bizarre place out at the end of the jetty with the most amazing view of Alcatraz and much of the bay. I sat to watch the view and became aware of all these strange gurgling noises and vibrations around me. That atmosphere along with the old stones from the Church which are all around was very relaxing. I felt very much at peace there. It became my "thinking place" where I went to be alone for peace. www.exploratorium.edu/visit/wave_organ.htmlI still think of it as a special place. This is one of the better articles I have found about it. Finally visited the wave organ-it's really great. Thanks for posting it on here, I wouldn't have known about it otherwise.

I went to a wine bar called Terroir recently. Really nice place, and great staff. Mostly French wines. Well worth the visit. Have the staff recommend something for you! www.terroirsf.com/

Today I went to another favorite spot about 1/2 hour drive south from San Francisco: Moss beach! Park at the Moss beach distillery www.mossbeachdistillery.com/and walk south. You'll be greeted with these views: There's a short hike (a mile or so) along the cliffs going south. If there is swell in the water you'll see Mavericks, a famous big wave surf spot just out from Pillar point. Climb down to the shore on a low tide and look at the tidepools: Or head north from the distillery and see these trees: When you're tired from walking around get a drink at the distillery and enjoy the sunset. There is a nice outside patio as well. It's hard to say too many good things about spending an afternoon in this area. A couple of interesting facts: -the distillery was a speakeasy during times of prohibition and claims to have it's own ghost -the underwater geology is amazingly complex and affects how the waves hit pillar point/Mavericks. At low tide some of the curved rocks are exposed. Last but not least: Take warm clothes! The area is often windy or foggy.

Going inland I'd put in a plug for the Delta King floating hotel in Old Scramento. Good food and pretty reasonable rates for a semi-exotic location!

If you're in Berkeley and a jonesing for a late night coffee or dinner go here: www.aucoquelet.comThe cafe up front has lots of university folks studying, the back has a restaurant with some organic stuff. I had a grass fed buffalo burger today close to midnight. Very very good. I applaud their dedication to late night cuisine. Weekdays you can get a meal until 1 am, weekends a bit later. Yum.
