Voy, there are some very inexpensive flights between the coasts right now. You could put someone in charge and come join us.
I'm so envious of the big slumber party week at Writeons. Sounds wonderful.

I leave here on Feb 10. Have appts lined up for next two weeks and hope my granddaughter will be able to come from Denver last week of Feb. I think the best time for me to stuff-up would be the 5, 6 March weekend. I return to Oaxaca on the 12th March. Doesn't really give me enough time there, but I'd rather be here. If I could afford to stay there in the style to which I would like to be accustomed, then time would be no limit.

Wildly, come and join us in SF!
Does someone know the hostels of Hostelling International? They have 3 in SF and all of them are moderately priced.

That is something you might want to PM Welle about. She would be the most likely person to know or know someone who would.

I have Lisa's number, but I think it's in a notebook in S. Rafael. Kimby? Isn't she in Montana?
You're thinking of Nin. She's in Reno, and wants to come down. Maybe depends on her classes.
Oh dear, won't it be wonderful to eat and gossip!
Hell, the Winchester witches can't compete with the Frisco freaks. They may have more time together, but we can eat fast and laugh louder. (unfortunately on both counts.)

Voy can come, too?! So that would make Ethel, welle, me and voy, right? Now if I had a car I could just drive over, but I don't have one and still haven't go the US licence either. Damn, I really start to regret not to have sorted this out earlier. The train takes about 8hrs and although I've been dying to do this, it means skipping classes at least one day. I'll check if there is a bus service, maybe there's a Greyhound or something.

No, spring break is just a bit later. I checked and there is a bus, but not sure if the Mr. will let me use the Greyhound as he thinks the busses here are not so safe. There's also a train, but the prices are up so much already it's more expensive than flying. But don't worry, I'll find a way.

AND they're just starting direct flights from here to there on Monday - a bit too late, it seems. But it's way too far to drive. Seattle and SLC maybe. Farther than that, not likely.

This is a fabulous thread. One of my favorite cities. I wish I could afford to go more often. I spent some significant time there (my husband proposed to me over the phone while I was there,he was afraid I wouldn't leave there!!!). I got to know the city fairly well,as I set out everyday for over a month and went somewhere different almost every day. (My legs were like braided titanium by the time I left there from all the walking up and down hills!). Some day trips by car to Santa Cruz.... And food, every possible ethnic variety imaginable. My Hosts (2 different couples, one downtown, the other in Diamond Heights) kept me pretty spread about. I long to go back soon(.I have a dear friend in the Marine district who keeps trying to lure me) (great great pics! thanks!)

We had a quick tour through the Mission district when we drove from our hotel to meet Ethel. It looked like a lovely area that I want to explore next time. Last saturday I spend all afternoon in the Hayes Valley/Hayes street and then quickly walked over to explore Japantown. Lovely areas and great to sit outside on a terace, drinking coffee and watch the world go by.

from lunch with ethel in San Rafael , we drove alllll the way to the end of the Sir Francis Drake highway, at the ocean, turned left to Stinson Beach, and then kept on, over Mt Tamalpais and back into SFO over the Golden Gate... WHAT a gorgeous drive/walk on the beach!!

Voy, I love Stinson Beach. It was always one of my fave things to do in SF and I always fancied one of the houses right down near the beach, though maybe not on it. I had some great afternoons up there.

A bit on the expensive side but worth it: www.chouchoubistro.com/French food with actual French waiters (with a quirky attitude).
