Welcome back home, Sophie!
I'm enjoying a cheeky glass of wine to entice the muse to come and play with my dissertation.

I saw two swans on the river here today. We only have them here when they are migrating through.

the eel was caught by my brother, and prepared by him and his best friend (who is a cook and worked in a restaurant specialized in fish and sea food for a few years), i didn't ask them for details, but the eel was fried and served with a dill sauce, potatoes, and green asparagus with some mild chili on it. and it was very good.

Yum, that eels sounds delicious. My grandfather used to catch them and then smoke them. Very good.

Years ago we had a holiday in New Brunswick, a houseboat on the St John's river. My friend Danny caught an eel and it was given to me to cook. The two 18 year old daughters refused to eat it which was just as well as it wasn't large. There wasn't much choice about how to cook it. I chopped it in lengths and fried it with garlic and soy sauce. It made a very small starter for the 4 of us.

St. John. harrumph. but it makes me happy that you went there; such a lovely province but so few visitors.

Sprite, I can't say much about the town coz we were on the St John's river which included a lot of lakes that rose and fell with the tide. We rented what was called a houseboat. It had an engine so (unlike a houseboat in England) you could move about. My friend Danny refused to let anyone else take the wheel. One evening he steered us into a small inlet and we cast out the anchor. In the middle of the night we were woken up by the tilting of the boat. The tide had gone out and we had to wait until the water rose to move off. We had brought simple fishing tackle. On the first evening I caught half a dozen small fish (and nothing the rest of the week). Danny got up at 6 every morning and fished and all he caught was one eel.

Much to be grateful for today. Surgery done. Scruffy welcomed me home with open paws. Lilita is here today cleaning and cooking. I'm going to have risotto, zucchini, and meatloaf. Yay! The sun is shining.
It's not even noon yet.

Eel in aspic. I'm thinking... no. A friend did send me this, though... I think it looks lovely. Apparently it's grilled eel, avocado, shrimp and rice.

haha! you were near the bay. up where i lived, the tide was almost unnoticable. Do you know the Steamerstop Inn? We went there for dinner. The owner (who is also a MP) came and chatted at our table. He joined us after dinner for what he called an aperitif. I think he needs to brush up his language skills (and NB is the only province in Canada that is officially bi-lingual).
