In the British House of Commons there is the pretence they are all Honourable Members. Hence they are not known by name but as the Honourable Member for (whatever is their consituency). As they are honourable they do not lie. If you call an Honourable member a liar you either withdraw the insult or are escorted out of the House of Commons. Today a Labour MP called the prime minister a liar. This of course is a fact. However truth is a hazy concept to Boris. The MP refused to withdraw so she was banished. In case you ever find yourself elected as MP in Britain I warn you that as well as calling a fellow MP a liar here are a few other terms you cannot call him/her: blackguard, coward, git, guttersnipe, hooligan, pipsqueak, rat and stool pigeon. Also drunk is not allowed. A British MP is never drunk, he is tired and emotional.

Tomorrow we are doing to stay in a cottage in Suffolk for 3 nights (and days). There is more upheaval, planning and packing than if we were going to Asia for 6 weeks.

I look at 2 weather sites: BBC and Metcheck. Do they by any chance inhabit different planets? At the end of this week one of them has the temperature at 19c, the other at an unbelievable 12c.

That reminds me of the amazing summer England (though not Scotland) had in 1976. When it came to the weather forecast on the local radio station the DJ simply said: Just look at it.

This afternoon we had a meeting with our solicitor, just to update our wills to take account of changes in the law. Why do I find this so depressing and exhausting?
When I first went to university I started a degree in Roman-Dutch law (which is what South Africa has). I am so glad I gave it up.

Tzarine, it was a bizarre meeting with the solicitor. She wasn't fully trained and she was just making sure we knew what the new inheritance meant (no death tax until a couple's estate passes £1 million - there, I have told you the nub of our meeting in 10 words). There was an interesting moment when she said she had to test us for dementia. She made us each explain what a will was. We passed - neither of us has dementia.

On Friday and Saturday nights Chipping Sodbury has street pastors. These are little old ladies who go out when the pubs are emptying. They give girls who have had too much to drink lollypops. If the girl is sucking a lollypop a man can't try to kiss her. The next morning the streets have a scattering of lollypop sticks with their candy sucked off.

We have a friend - born in the UK but living for years in the USA - who has just emailed us. He/she (a sex change op makes it difficult for us to assign a pronoun) is flying over on Friday and wants to come and stay. Not much notice then which we think is discourteous. Mrs Faz has replied saying No. Mrs Faz and I have both been double-jabbed but it is not 100% effective and we don't see why we should be exposed to this person who has met huge numbers of people in airports, planes, buses etc. Even our family have not been here.

a's class has "panda week" this week (she is in her schools "panda class", they also have a koala class, a racoon class, a fox class, a squirrel class etc. - so during this week they spoke a lot about pandas, also so the new first graders can started integrating into the class) - so, today they spoke about pandas being from china, and the teacher showed them pictures, among them a chinese house. except, a. recognized the picture to be from the movie "spirited away" (her favorite movie), so she told the teacher that this was not a chinese house, but a japanese house.

You may have read about the panic buying of petrol in Britain. This began when our hopeless prime minister said there was no need to panic. This of course was interpreted as Panic! Panic!
We saw massive queues on Sunday but fortunately passed a filling station with only 5 cars waiting. We need a full tank to go to hospital (for me) today and for Mrs Faz to visit her daughter next week.
Six doors down from us lives a long distance lorry driver. I saw him walking his labradors yesterday morning and remarked I thought he would be on the road. He blinked a bit and said he had only got home at 4 in the morning. I said I had read in the paper that some fuel tanker delivery drivers were followed by cars to find out where they were delivering. He said the next thing I'd read in the paper was that a fuel tanker had been hijacked.
I haven't read all the paper yet this morning.

It is the season for annual party conferences in Britain. The Labour party has just had its own shouty event. The deputy leader gave a rousing speech attacking the government "scum". Among many accusations she said the Conservatives were homophobic. Someone should have pointed out to her that it was a Conservative government that legalised same sex marriages. I doubt that would have changed her mind. The Conservatives were also racist. Yet she only has to look at photos of government ministers to see black and brown faces. That wouldn't change her mind either.

I don't know where else to post this:
A Danish museum wants an artist to return around 534,000 kroner ($83,000) he had been given in cash to recreate old artworks using banknotes, after he produced blank canvasses with the title "Take the Money and Run".

Mrs Faz and I are volunteers at the National Trust. Mrs Faz has been a lottery ticket seller (the best they have had) and has raised maybe £40,000 for Dyrham Park where we work. My role has been different. I have the grand title of Food and Drink Interpreter. Basically I hand over a small cup of tea/coffee/drinking chocolate and talk about its discovery and arrival in Britain. Donations are not the point of my role but they do indicate how much people enjoy what I do. Donations on the days I work are 2 to 3 times higher. One visitor was so enthused she (ahem) kissed me. Neither role has survived the pandemic. We were encouraged to work in the second hand book room which we visited last week. It put us off working there. Mrs Faz wrote saying she wouldn't be volunteering any more. As for me, my strength is in story telling and the book room has been moved to a soulless place, no character, nothing to talk about. So I am not going to work there. But there is talk of my role returning before Christmas. We have had no acknowledgemnt of our decisions. We were paid nothingg for our one day a week work. It feels as though because we weren't paid we counted for nothing.
