there was a bit of heat a week ago but it's been pleasant with a nice sea breeze the last few days... so far no need to turn on the air conditioner at home...

Hello lovely nerds. Summer came and went and came again. In between there were floods, mudslides, and other signs of the apocalypse. I think summer will resume this weekend.

We're having summer this weekend! I've been lucky, too - in the past 3 weeks it's been very rainy in Saskatoon, but I've spent 2 of those weeks up at work where it was sunny and lovely.
But why do I feel so lazy? Lazy, lazy, lazy.

Because it's those lazy- hazy- crazy days of summer....
"they" are saying it could get up to 36C here by Sunday...gasp!

Today was glorious - was supposed to go to 27 but only hit 25. Blue sky most of teh day, hazed over a bit in late afternoon.
Spent a couple hours weeding and watering the garden, and one of my tomato plants has baby tomatoes!!!! Then played with the cat in the yard - unfortunately he thinks it's a great game to go over the fence and hide in the neighbour's yard! They don't like cats, though, and have lots of bird houses. So I spend 20 minutes chasing him through their tall ferns until he got bored and let me catch him. Little brat.
Then we went for a bike ride and stumbled across a free stage for the jazz festival that is currently going on, so stopped and listened for a while.

Hi (weather) nerds. We looked at butterflies and dragonflies today. Fortunately it wasn't too hot or too humid.
Yesterday there was fierce rain, hail, winds and power outages in and south of the city. Up here it was fairly calm and not nearly as rainy.
Today is the 1-year anniversary of the fearsome storm (the derecho) that roared through after 10 pm, knocking out electricity to millions of people for days on end, during a prolonged heat wave. I'm so glad it's calm and dry right now.

I'm glad that YOU are calm and dry too!

Yeah, I'm pretty calm and I'm certainly dry. No cats to chase after etc.
At least I'm not in Las Vegas (highs 115F/46C) or Death Valley California (highs 120+F/more than 50C) at the moment.
Outside there is high fog. A cardinal and some sparrows are sparring over the feeder, a squirrel was on the balcony, Carolina Wrens are out the front window. The only audible HVAC unit just cut off.
Several things could be done today, some mutually exclusive Watch the FIFA Confederations Cup third place and final match, go to the Folk Life Festival downtown, walk through the park, drive somewhere to watch birds, take a mid-day nap, walk to the nearest farmer's market ...

Yeah, might end up doing that, annie. I told him to think about something he'd like and let me know.

I ended up watching the FIFA matches and dodging Rain Showers #57 and #58. Right now #65 seems to have cleared out. I suppose some day in the not-too-distant future it won't be raining.

HOttest day of the summer so far, today - 31C. I actually went for a run this morning before it got too hot, but I wasn't quite early enough. 27C was plenty hot enough.
Bike ride in the afternoon was nice - as long as you keep moving you have the breeze you create.
