www.foodincmovie.com/i meant to put that link in the OP! The documentary is about the food industry in the US, how the food is produced, how the companies operate, etc. The shots from the slaughterhouses instantly turn you into a vegetarian. Apparently there are only about 20 slaughterhouses left in the US and they produce all the meat eaten. The poultry farms they show were also awful. Most of the stuff i knew already, but seeing pictures is different from knowing. It also makes you hate this whole corporate business that is just after profit.

I have no problem with someone making a movie about this as it will raise awareness and more people will wake up and realise what crap they are eating most of the time. But I have no problem also with poultry farms, genetically modified veggies, mass slaughter houses or whatever. I would rather eat local produce of course but I don't see what all the fuss is about.

Apropos Monsanto, there's a French journalist who made a documentary about Monsanto. Watch that and you end up hating that company, what a bunch of greedy f**ckers.
While I have no problems eating meat of whatever animal, I do think that animals should be treated with dignity, too and not be exposed to unnecessary suffering.

That's why I only buy meat I know where it comes from and I know the animals have been slaughtered in a "humane" way. I don't want to be responsible for unnecessary suffering for the animals !

In the documentary Food Inc. they talked about some of Monsanto's practices of intimidating farmers and sueing those who didn't use their GM soy beans. The regulations are very much kafkaesk and sadly most independent farmers give in because they can't afford to pay for the court case. Such big companies make such huge companies that they willingly budget for damage they may cause. Paying for a settlement or to silence someone is still cheaper for them than enforcing more research or adhere to stricter regulations.
But remember we had a discussion here once about big food companies? Try not to buy anything that is Nestle or Kraft Foods for a week - those guys seem to own everything.
