I'll have to leave you for awhile. My grandmother is in poor health since the other day when Aunt Rose, her sister died. I find myself responsible for two extended families. Being responsible for my own family is something I've been trained for all my life. Not a problem. I now find myself in a very strange circumstance, being in charge of a family I hardly know. The e-mails I've had to answer in the past three days are overwhelming. Aunt Rose is my Great Aunt, I don't know her great grandchildren. I've never met them. Now I have to mediate their squabbles. Until one of Aunt Rose's grand daughters steps up I'll be on the hook. Seems my generation knows how this shit works, but the kids just know how to send an e-mail to someone they've never met.

shrjeff, I know almost everyone from my generation back. I don't know the people who emigrated. We have HUGE reunions every few years. I'm the eldest child of the eldest son of the eldest now living (since Aunt Rose died). Also My great grandfather was the eldest, my grandfather was the eldest, my father was the same. I know you can follow. This is on both sides of the family. My cousin Dall will have to name herself willing to do for her family. Until then I'm the eldest and all the shit lands on me. The longer she can put it off the better for her. Already there is some shit hitting the fan because everyone is jockeying for position. I've had 15 e-mails saying Dall can't because she was adopted. Personally I don't give a flying shit, this is so medieval. I'll name Dall as soon as I can, and as soon as she'll allow me to. If not I've got 30 other women to choose from.

Wish you didn't have to go thru all the family stuff, Charlie. That's quite a load. I always wondered why family has to present us with some of the most difficult lessons.
You HAVE to get it all sorted before the voyager arrives.

Hope your grandmother is doing better. And all the best for you! I know you'll manage well, but wishing you lots of strength and the wisdom of Solomon.
Come on here to vent. We'll miss you

No wonder you don't like to live near your relatives.
I can't believe they are involving you in their problems really.
