Currently, I just can't get enough of it. The same is also true with chorizo, so naturally I end up putting that on pizza.
Tonight was garlic and tomato, topped with a small amount of cheese and basil with choriza, mushrooms and olives.

Did you see the amazing photos we posted of the pizza thrower in Crete? He made wonderful pizzas. In fact we wasn't Greek but came from Macedonia and trained in pizza making for 2 years in Italy.

What do you bake yours on gyro?
I just recently bought two large pizza stones, only because they were going very cheaply and they promise to give a crispier crust.
Baz, wish I had a wood fired oven like that. A friends husband once promised to make me one but never got around to it.

I'm not so keen on meat on a pizza but I do like onions. A friends husband once promised to make me one but never got around to it. Mockers, you need to get him one of these -

Yeah, I'd like to get a pizza stone to see how much difference it makes, but haven't yet. I just use a metal round tray with holes in. I like that as it cooks the base more evenly and quicker, potentially.
I just make a simple base with SR flour water and oil (no yeast, and bake that on it's own for 5 or mins before taking out and sorting out the topping. Tonight's was deliciously thin.

Cool. I get one for 15 squid at a dept store in the nearby city. And I'm going shopping Saturday too. Might just give it a whirl, thanks for reminding me ....
Marky Mark, I'm not a fan of onions or peppers on pizza. Olives are ESSENTIAL, and I normally plump for green, not black like the purists say you should. Mainly, I have either bacon/ham/chorizo together with either mushroom or egg or both. Sliced boiled egg is a wonderful and often overlooked topping ( you can stick yer pineapple up yer arse). It's either that sort of combo, or anchovies with capers and garlic.
Fried pizza is also devine, but it is best to make the dough with yeast for that one, so it takes more preparation.

Peppers aren't a favourite either, though if there is meat on it it does have to be pork related. Egg is a thought then as well.

I have never heard of egg on pizza but,it does sound good,I think with spinach, very good, and the chorizo to finish it off. If I use meat, I ,too definitely prefer pork. I do love anchovies on,roasted garlic, artichoke hearts and often some crumbled feta cheese. I prefer the crust as thin as possible. The pan with the holes is similar I guess in concept to the regular tart/pie pan I bake with, excellent results. I don't know that I would purchase a stone unless I knew I was going to use it a lot.I have so much kitchen stuff already that I don't use enough and little storage space for.

Gyro, no I won't shove the pineapple up my arse and I hope no one else does. Tastes too good on pizza to waste that way.
Have you ever even tried it? I shocked my japanese boys that stayed here with it and they ended up loving it. Goes well with ham and whatever else you like with it.
In Australia I've seen egg on pizza but not tried that. I do believe it's a freshly cracked one thought that cooks on the pizza. Sounds better to me than hard boiled egg cooked again anyday.

Mockly, I believe I was talking to Mark about the pineapple arse bit, but yes, I have tried it; why would you think I hadn't ? You don't have to attempt justifying personal taste you know.
Never tried cracking an egg directly onto a pizza, although seen it done. Maybe you should try the boiled egg as well, so you can condemn with authority at least, eh ... !?

The baking stones work great for pizza (and pita bread). I use them all the time.
Best pizzas are: bell pepper, Canadian or cottage bacon, pineapple; spinach, portabello mushrooms, red onions, feta/Balkan cheese and mozzarella too.

Cottage bacon is a lot like Canadian bacon, comes in circles, more ham-like than the typical sliced strip bacon one buys.

I don't think I'll bother with the pizza stone tomorrow. I may put the money towards a sense of humour for Mockly. Either that, or a course on how not to have a chip on her shoulder about certain nationalities, and how not to apply ridiculous geography based generalisations.
It'll be a long course though, and probably pointless because you'd certainly fail ....

Whenever I've seen this vile concoction, the offending pineapple has been as a topping on the cheese in the same way the shamed ham is sitting next to it. Poor ham, waiting for a chance to shine and be appreciated, and then it gets lumped together with a stupid fruit.
What a waste ....
