what does this mean? this was in a call for submissions I took it that is was meant to be “Feeling Bothered” but a spelling error was made and they forgot to write the “B”.

It could also mean a way of marginalising someone - ignoring a person, treating them as a person who isn’t important, in some religions there is the practice of “shunning” those being shunned are ignored, treated like outcasts. I’d say this would cause you to be feeling othered.

Yes, I think that is right.
Plus it seems that "to other", "othering", and presumable "othered" can refer to the use of adjectives that are irrelevant in the context and depict traits are despised and not shared.
I was talking to a tall/skinny/female/asian friend about the new Cezanne exhibition.

i mean all this "new" language is stupid. im sick of people reaching out & circling back. i was sick of it 20 years ago when everyone thought if you used business jargon youd somehow be better @ business. i guess it makes people feel special
just hate the sounds. so im gonna be the other bc i wrote about how it was to be mistaken for a japanese person, when i am american? i like outsider
i love the language of mr shakespeare who is way more expressive than these new dumb expressions ohmygod! i just mentioned a dead white male. will the academics come after me for not using the approved "othered" writer
& while im ranting. shut the F#$%^&*()_ w LATINX! that is not a word. my spanish speaking friends refuse to buy into this new cr@W#$%^&*()_{+
im glad some unis like where my son goes still uses the correct SPANISH, unlike harvard & yale who now have LATINX departments
thank you for listening to my rant. you will be returning to your regular programming

Reading all your comments, I remembered, as I must, Borges and the other Borges, in fact "El Otro" which I have never read.
Perhaps knowing how one can remember a story as yet unread is an essential trait of the Borges student. I have studiously left unread much of his later works, from fear of both dilution and from being aware, as he warned, that to read a posthumous author, is quite different to a reading whilst they lived.
So I read "The Other" at a distance, but that is unimportant. I also commenced on two commentaries on his story, but stopped. I realised that I could not be sure they weren't literary forgeries by other students or by Borges.

george herbert mead used 'generalized other' to refer to internalizing the acceptable mores of one's society as part of growing up... i.e. knowing how to behave in social situations... thus to feel 'othered' is to feel sophisticated in one's ability to negotiate one's social system...
