There's a story in the papers today about a man who had a crash but his insurers won't pay up. The man's sister urges everyone to check the "small print" of their policy. Sneaky bastards, you think, hiding something in the small print. Reading further it is not like that at all. Man on a Thai island hires a scooter, drives off, goes round a bend (speed not specified) and runs into an electricity post. Severe injuries.
But his travel insurance was only for 31 days. He took it out. He must have known. We have an annual policy which is only valid for trips not exceeding 31 days. We telephone the insurers and say we need it for 42 days and they say fine, it will be an extra £xx. We say fine and pay the extra. They send the extension document. Done and dusted.
Nothing is hidden in the small print. He paid for a 31 day trip. That will be absolutely clear on his policy.

Has you policy been updated to cover covid issues or delays? That's caching a few out here with annual renewal type policies rather than trip specific one offs.

I just restarted my travel insurance policy with the same carrier I had prior to Covid when I cancelled it. It’s a around the year policy so if I want to pop across the border to the States, I have it. It’s good. Definitely better than the average.

We purchased an annual travel insurance policy for the first time late last year. This post tells me I should double check that there isn't a limit on individual trip length...
My gripe with these 'go fund me' campaigns for those unwell overseas is when they didn't take out any insurance at all. Often they even state that the insurance was too expensive. Yet they want strangers to foot their medical bills when they chose to save money by not purchasing insurance.

The only time I didn’t take out insurance was when I went to New Zealand which was my first time overseas. I didn’t know much back then about anything travel related, I had only just learned how to use the internet - everything was done by phone. Thankfully I am more computer savvy now!
