For me, the type of dishes I cook/ the type of food I eat is so totally different between Wintry and Summery months that my cutlery drawer looks different.
In winter, I mainly eat soups/stews and other dishes that I can eat with a spoon; whereas in summer I eat more salads and quickly cooked meals that I eat with a fork and a knife.
Do you also find such differences?

No, we eat similar foods summer and winter. The difference is what is available in the vegetable and fruit line. So in France we looked forward to the arrival of asparagus at the end of March (here it is a month later). Sweetcorn isn't grown in France (only maize for poultry feed) but having it in England is a bonus in August.Thankfully the hype over beaujolais nouveau has come to an end so we miss that seasonal nonsense.

Summer I tend to eat more salads and lighter lunches, winter comfort and warming foods. For years I had a big veggie garden, now nothing so my seasonal vegetable selection is actually much wider now as I buy fruit and veggies that come from the much warmer northern parts. Fortunately I've never really got into the buying food from overseas routine as that no doubt will slow for a while.

It is the game season. It actually starts on 12th August with grouse. Partridge is next. Now we are in the pheasant season. We have been given a fine cock pheasant from the Dodington estate a couple of miles away. Dyson lives there (Dyson of vacuum cleaners, hairdryers etc) though I doubt he was one of the shooting party.
The pheasant is hanging in the garden shed for now. I'll pluck it some time next week.

Australia has most things all the time as it's a big country so can grow most things all year. The only thing I refuse to buy is Chinese asparagus or Chinese garlic. They are rubbish. I have a Dyson Baz! I'm sure my neighbours think I'm nuts when I bring out out on the front patio to suck up the dead leaves from my pot plants. I wonder why they are so expensive here though. Tell him I'm not impressed with the price lol.

Another pheasaant has arrived and is hanging in the garden shed. The previous pheasant is in the freezer and I think we'll have it next Sunday. The one that has just come I'll let hang for a couple of weeks then I'll make it into pheasant escabeche. We think of escabeche as something done with raw seafood but Julia Child has a recipe where you cook game with vegetables, lemon slices, vinegar etc, then take it off the bone and make a terrine out of it. It is excellent. I'll serve it when my daughter is here after Christmas.

The pheasant glut continues. We'll have roast pheasant tomorrow. I have made pheasant escabeche (sort of like a paté) which I'll put in the freezer. This afternoon another pheasant arrived which I'll hang for a fortnight before plucking and drawing it. Plus 4 pheasant breasts came too.

I love the vegetables that we grow ourselves. Yesterday it was tender young beetroot. Tonight I made paella with our own courgette, broad beans and green beans to go with the chorizo, seafood and a bit of duck from the freezer. But it was the fresh home grown veggies that made it special.
