Since I've seen the question elsewhere, I've been wondering what was my favourite meal as a child.
I am so lucky that mom cooks really well so all dishes are pleasant.
some favourites are courgettes in tomato sauce with loads of cheese added, stuffed summer vegetables (stuffed with mince and baked) as well as rosti with emince à la Zurichoise (veal cut in small bite-sized chunks in a creamy sauce). obviously spaghetti with tomato sauce features high on the list too.

My favourites were always spaghetti bolognaise, and lasagna. My Dad always preferred meat & potatoes so having spag or lasagna was a rare treat, and I LOVED them.

not sure what was my favourite ... but pancakes (thin ones) were nice, sometimes with apple slices baked into them ... we'd sit at the table and my poor mom would be frying them, giving each of us a freshly made one in turn, with us usually being done eating long before we get the next one so we complained while she hurried and didn't eat ... and then later, the leftover ones cold and rolled up with sugar ...
simple fried potatoes or scrambled eggs were nice, too - my dad made them for his dinner, arguing we had a warm lunch at school, while he only had sandwiches for lunch (though that reminds me - leftover cheese sandwhiches were nice too, somehow they tasted better in the evening than freshly made), and we complained we wanted some too, so the days he did make some for us, too, were good days ...
my dad's "chinese" food, which was nothing close to chinese food - but he had tried some chinese and other foreign food when he visited relatives in west germany, so he made up some exotic-tasting dishes with rice and various spices and raisins, and it tasted very different to all the food everyone usually ate ...

My favourite was probably my mother’s fancy fowl.. she would bone a chicken or turkey or other fowl leaving the skin intact and breast meat in place as well as drumsticks. Then she made a stuffing using any meat removed, other meat and spices and a bit of bread.. that stuffing was put into the empty skin and baked. Served, it was sliced into slices, not at all like a regular roasted fowl.

My favourite wasn't actually a meal, but part of one. I always loved our meaty gravy with a bit of mint sauce in it and then thick slices of white bread dipped in to mop it up.

Apricot dumplings! Few years ago my mother asked me about my favorite dishes, so she can make them for me when I am home. Later she found a list of my favorite food that I made 27 years ago... Still the same, just my spelling got better.

Sunday roast. Which was always on Sundays at 11.30am. Which was a leg o lamb with mint sauce, baked spuds, carrots and/or pumpkin, peas, cabbage. Lots of gravy. Followed by sweets - favourite was mum's apple sponge with custard. Sometimes we had cream poured over, but not often. Ohmm I can smell it now , nobody cooked roast potatoes like mum. Crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, I always loved the ones that had a bit of a vegemite browny colour on the edges.

Are you Aussie Netsuke? I read spuds and lamb with mint sauce so you must be I think my favourites were borscht and perogies with cheese and potato. I should make them more myself. My grandma and mum both made them so I leaned from them. My husband is crazy over them too.

Mmm.. I love anything covered in covered with béchamel. I refuse to make lasagna with out it. I like it with it on.

my late mother was a great cook there were so many
fried chicken w homemade fries steak & potatoes was a treat her egg rolls were amazing beef & tomato saute
this makes me miss her so much

Unlike Tzarine's mum, mine was a terrible cook. But she did make great chicken liver sandwiches.

I'd be in for anything with chicken livers involved. I'm thinking of making chicken liver pate actually for Christmas. Baz do you have a favourite recipe for it? I have many of your other recipes still, thank you which were wonderful. I want all cold food this year. It's way too hot and now grandson is running around he can have a swim with us in the pool for the first time

That's my favorite mom food, too, though ours were apricot fried pies. Mom made the best and shortest dough, rolled out and cut using a tea saucer as a pattern. Stewed, dried apricot filling and fried in a cast iron skillet with Crisco, put on towels and sprinkled with powdered sugar. I think every single person in my family considered those their favorites. As for a meal, though, I favored breaded veal, string beans, and parsley potatoes. And sometimes I got breaded veal sandwiches for school lunch.
