we are prepping the outside for sowing of a type of ground covering that is better than lawn. and I helped the neighbour make a raised bed so mom can plant salads and stuff.

Went to the city meeting for community gardens this week. Our garden coordinator couldn't make it so I went. It was long and kind of boring. But there were some free seeds available, so I got marigolds (I'm giong to plant a row between the public path and my tomato plants in an effort to stop people stealing tomatoes), and snow peas. I love peas but they always seem to ripen while we're away on holidays. Maybe changing to snow peas will take either less or more time and break the curse!

What is the life span of morning glories? they are in full bloom at the top and still putting out tendrils - but the bottom leaves are going yellow? I Just hope they make it another month - screening my windows. I will rip them out before I leave.

Our tomatoes were started indoors this year and some of them have been in the greenhouse for quite a while.. they are hardened off and will be planted outdoors maybe this week but with some protection still. Garlic is growing well and we’ve had lettuce as well as kale from the garden. Potatoes are getting planted this weekend.

Yesterday we planted an evergreen clematis.. I love them, they are so fragrant. The one I planted last year didn’t make it, so we are trying again in a different location.

My morning-glories, on a trellis in front of my kitchen window ( to compensate for the missing bushes and until the new bushes grow ), are proving to be perfect - they are annuals, and have bloomed profusely for weeks , and now they are dying off from the ground up. I will be yanking them all out in just under two weeks - perfect timing !

The weeds in my little back courtyard are waist high. I shall have to buy weed killer.

Weed killer is a waste of money.. get some exercise and do a bit of pulling especially if it’s a small area!

The flower starts in the greenhouse have been given their eviction notice so I am planting zinnias, snapdragons, calendula, and marigolds as well as dahlia tubers. Just finished the front two beds (did some weeding while I was at it) and now off to do the back beds. I will also plant the begonias and geraniums which have been growing in the greenhouse. And I need to transplant basil. That’ll be enough!

the neighbours are not planning on planting anything much in the garden until after their holidays. it looks like those planting early need to replace a lot of plants after heavy frosts in the spring these days.

Here too - it snowed the past 2 days. But today it's sunny and up to about freezing, so the snow is melting rapidly. Sidewalks are already clear and roads are a big slushy mess.

sounds the same as here, annie. It was quite warm but always super windy for the past couple weeks. This week it's snowing/raining and barely above freezing. And STILL windy!
I'm thinking I should be getting some seedlings, to get them stronger and bigger before planting starts, but it just doesn't feel like it's the right time of day!
