I know it depends on the size, but I would expect to pay about $2.00 US for a small (still pretty large though) bag of ice.

what Pero said, but some places are as low as 1.25 for a small bag

Ice is for sale everywhere in the U.S. but for me the concept of buying ice is completely foreign. I'd never pay for a bag of frozen water. edit: btw. I think they should charge way more for a bag of ice cubes. The more I think of it, the more I think it's just another convenience good that actually is no more than a waste of valuable resources. And why? Because think they gonna die if their drink is not ice cold.

Wouldn't have a clue. Not something I'm likely to buy as cold wet stuff falls from the sky quite naturally,.

We buy ice when we're camping in the summer and have no access to a 'fridge/freezer. It's to keep the food in the cooler cool. We make sheets of ice at home before we leave, but after a 12 hour drive in the heat we need to replace it, and then we need more ice every 36 hours or so at the campground. This is usually in the US and it's $1.25 in the city grocery store, or $2.00 out at the campground where they have a captive audience.
No idea how much it is in Canada as I haven't camped here in years.

This makes me laugh. It costs about the same here, we had to buy a bag last summer also for camping purpose. My aussie husband was shocked about the price and said in Oz ice was dirt cheap. Well things seem to have changed

what the others have said - it's almost always used for coolers. Once in a while , if having a big party with a huge tub for beer I'll get a bag while at home. but very rarely compared to my annual migrations - where I bring food with me in hte cooler...

I don't think I've ever bought ice. I've always made my own or collected in carrier bags from a local pub.
