That is hilarious. Wonder how he kept his cool during the sleepless nights due to his neighbour's lamp

Ha!
Our neighbour across the way had a super-bright light on all the time for a while too. Our bedroom is in the back of the house so it didn't shine into our room directly, but coming in the spare room window it lit up the entire floor of the house. We had to close the doors of the rooms on that side of the house to make it dark enough to sleep.
Luckily they either didn't like the electricity bills, or another neighbour spoke to them, because they changed it after a couple months.

We had that but it was the council that changed to energy efficient streetlight over the alleyway out living room / balcony faced. It was bright enough to read a book without straining the eyes. Luckily we weren't the only people who had this problem so they got changed or covered or something.

Oh man, such floodlights seem to be very popular in rural areas in the U.S. My neighbour deems it necessary to light the front area of his barn the entire night, it doesn't shine into my bedroom window but when I walk the dog at nights and am on my way back - walking towards that barn - I always regret that I didn't bring any sunglasses. Those things should be forbidden.

Security lights and audible burglar alarms come on and go off so frequently that nobody pays attention to them any more. If you ask any burglar he will tell you that they are no deterrent and in fact a security light helps him by lighting up his target so he can see it better.

Ohh yes, there is a motorbike that seems to be permanently parked on the footpath outside my apartment building with an alarm that goes off every single morning at about 5.30am and, if we're 'lucky', once or twice extra each and every day. I certainly don't bother to check for a thief when I hear it!! It's very tempting to to go with a pair of wire cutters and disable that damn alarm!!

Hahahaha, that is brilliant, just brilliant. And the last line about effing off back to Austria. Classic.
A place I lived in some years ago, had a small covered outdoor area where I would sit of an evening reading. I used to hear "Turn off the bloody light." The woman in the flat next door didn't like the light on. Her bedroom was not directly opposite and she liked to sleep with the curtains open. When I suggested she close the curtains she said no. I explained I don't smoke inside, only outside and enjoyed reading. We got on alright after that.
