Do olive trees drop their leaves in Winter? I have a wee one in a pot which is enjoying its second winter indoors here, but its first one in the extremely dark far North. It was fine last year because it was indoors and had plenty of daylight and direct sun
Its not getting any sun now and is dropping its leaves since new years
Should I be worrying about its condition? Its nice and warm in the house.

I've got a mission olive and we bought it in winter with leaves on I am sure the mission olive is evergreen.
Is it getting too much water? I've got a good olive tree website bookmarked I'll post it here when I'm home later on

I've got an olive tree in my garden and there are loads of them around here and I have never seen the dropping leaves, sounds like your one may be poorly.

Ok this is the site - they are Florida based but I got some tips before buying ours and yes they are evergreen www.olivetreegrowers.com/Is it potbound? Ours is nearly 5ft and we've got it in half a wine barrel. Yup I agree it sounds poorly.

I don't think your olive tree should be doing a strip tease. The previous owners of our house left an olive tree in a pot which I have planted in the ground. It has kept all its leaves but is shivering in the snow at the moment.
Could you put you potted olive in a basket and take it outside for a walk?

I think I might need to read up on olive trees.

Olive trees do not lose their leaves in winter. My market street is "rue Lolive" which is named after someone of importance in the Antilles and nothing to do with olives, but people still call it the "marché de l'olive" and there are potted olive trees along the street. Their snow covered leaves are still there.

I was given an olive tree in a pot last summer and the tag in had on said that it will probably lose its leaes in winter when kept inside in a darkish and cool place and will grow them back in spring. It has lost about 50% of the leaves so far but looks healthy. I am sure yours will be fine !
