Why now?
I read Keith Richards' autobiography recently.
A few years ago I was stopped in the street by a guy who gave me 2 tickets to The Rolling Stones, he said to me and the husband 'you can have them for free but you have to go, they are on in an hour" so we raced to Wembley Arena (awful venue) and watched them along with loads of old people with binoculars.

I imagine he is upset at the cost of the tickets they've just released for the summer.

How much are they? I remember the ones that we got were 85 quid each and that was 2003. Shit, 10 years ago! The week before I'd said to my friend 'Love to go see them but not at 85 squid'
Don't you fancy braving the wannabe hippies at Glasto, TM?

Well '69 is a long time ago, and I didn't go then, so I have missed my chance. At the time it all seem too sad so I stayed in Kent but most of my crowd went up to the Park, well it was free for one thing. Given how much of their music was rooted in poor people one might be moved to comment but I guess their influences would like to have been rich too. I have little idea how much influence or control they have over their ticket prices but ouch. Here is Jagger commenting at that time on why concerts should be free (segment starts at 14:15): so follow this link: www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=uYPFrUzp87w#t=855sor skip forward from the start: Well that was then. Things are so much different now. I saw the Yardbirds when they had Clapton, what would people pay for a time-machine ticket to that?

My mother's friend was Jagger's partner at their high school dance. My mum and friend went to the girls school and he the boys school - and actually I think my cousin it teaching there now.
My mum says 'in those days' you didn't get to choose who you could dance with! It was really strange reading Keith Richard's autobiography because the early references were where my parent spent their youth.

missa:
It is a small world as they say. I never met them but I did know that Brian Jones was in trouble before he died as I had heard from Alexis Korner who we used to see form time to time. It was all rather tragic. I don't know how they come to terms with the Jones affair in their biographies but his being in pretty desperate trouble was quite widely known and as I recall Alexis was trying to get him into a safe environment where people wouldn't give him grief or think he was something special and basically leave him be. Sadly nothing came of it.
He was not alone. It was the start of the aftermath, damaged people started turning up from then onwards, it was a mess. Of the people I knew back then an alarming number died young. To misquote a phrase:
"If you don't remember the sixties you can't have been there."
On the other hand, my wife, was part of the beatnik & art school scene and knew Richards, Jagger and co from much earlier.
So I guess I know where your family is from and it is not all that far from this keyboard.

Interesting, Slowcoach - Did your wife sha5 Keith Moon as well?...
The Stones are Utter Kunts as they play Galstonbury for the first time ever and then announce they are playing a Gig in Hyde Park, a week later!!
The last gig they did was at the O2 in London and prices were £400......
At about 70 years old, the Kunts will be shite, anyway, and if someone pm'ed me now, saying I could have a free ticket, i wouldn't go and see the Kunts....
Just give it a Fucking rest, you money grabbing Kunts....

slowcoach,
Mum was an early fan (I know she had early autographs etc) I suppose she had to be, although Elvis was her real love, but my dad was more into the trad jazz scene he was 5 years older. I'm pretty sure that they were not part of the art school scene, though.
Aunt (and 2 cousins) still there and rest of mum's family still close by the area.

Hey MissyA I wonder if your Mum and my Mum passed each other in the night! My Mum went to the same Youth club as Mick and went on a couple of dates with him... The last time she saw him was in the summer holidays at the train station and he was back from his first year at uni. That night my Mum sniggered to her friend "Mick is dropping out of uni, he is in some band and reckons they are gonna be big"...
I think you probably live quite near me Slowcoach.

Yes, in all probability.
So it seems that knowing someone who knew one of The Rolling Stones is not that uncommon here, which is great fun. I suppose that ranks as two degrees of separation. When I think of all the people I knew and have forgotten and all the people they knew that is a lot of people.
The following is old history but will help right a wrong whilst I still remember.
The A&R (Artists & Repertoire) man at Decca records who signed The Rolling Stones was Dick Rowe. Sadly, he is is almost exclusively remembered for turning down The Beatles, who were probably pretty appalling when they auditioned. Well in the long run The Stones were I think the better bet although Decca didn't keep them. Rowe became the butt of a lot of jokes which was bloody unfair.

Oh For eff Sake!! The Stones have only sold out and announced another gig at Hyde Park!!! FFS, give it a rest, you boring Kunts!
I fucking hate both the Stones and the Beatles...Mainly because they have come across as stagnent, arrogant Kants and that there are so many young people like them today because they think it's trendy to like them...
Far better like something like this...
