So many Sohos, I guess it was SoHo.
During peak punk, I was often in Soho, the one where Blake lived and wrote "The Tyger", and the rest of the "Songs of Innocence". I would frequent "The Intrepid Fox" public house which is sadly no more.
ETA: I was hugely affected by Blake, one might say touched, which also implies going mad, and so in every sense that was true. The London poet; so much more accessible at the level of the street.

Harry Belafonte (March 1, 1927 – April 25, 2023)
I was never much of a fan. To my ear it sounded unfortunately, if unintentionally, parodic.

Classical music to help concentrating as my brain is wandering... so far the music is too interesting to help...

^ The Nutcracker is the only ballet I have ever seen.
On a very different note, sixty years ago The Rolling Stones were just one week away from recording their first single:
It barely registered but it was a start and I do remember it.

I can't remember a time when I didn't know this song, and I have no idea what I made of the lyrics which contain some great lines inlcuding the opening retort: The clarinet, not that it is readily audible, is played by Benny Goodman.

I don't know why this wasn't a monster hit ... such a great song with Phil Spector's patented [actress-murdering] wall of sound.

Hi trentt It was a big record in the UK, it made her a star. And the competition was pretty tough at the time. Looking back now, I don't think she ever did anything as thumping again.

slowcoach - I read on Wikipedia that the song peaked at #88 on the US charts but was much bigger in Europe. And in fact Ike & Tina - & later Tina on her own - were far more popular in Europe than they/she ever were in USA (which blows my mind really). This is part of the reason why she later moved to France & then retired to Switzerland - where she died. Europe has much better taste than USA does!

With no apparent rhyme or reason music emerges from the foetid swamp of my subconscious. Its bubble disturbs the liminal tranquillity, make a noise, and then fades leaving the mire's dark surface clear and smooth once more:
The B-Side to "All You Need Is Love"

Serendipity brings us here, I started thinking about "Gates of Eden" and then this song, and recalling that I, unlike so many of my contemporaries, had no idea what they were about. Not knowing what they meant came with a feeling of inferiority. I have finally solved my issue in a tried and trusted way by categorisation: They are `Scapes, in this instance, Dylanscapes. Since when did a 'scape have to mean anything? Unfortunately the logical extension, Songscapes, is a term that already exists with a different meaning. I will find some time to delve back into other Dylanscapes, and also some Blakescapes, and others who names currently ....
ETA: The camera, hand, and legs in the background belonged to Bob Neuwirth (artist, musician, and otherthings) who died just over a year ago.

oui, adieu, Jane Birkin! did she ever fully recover from her relationship with Serge Gainsbourg or was she trapped in the public's eyes as his muse? I'll prolly never know.

I had no idea this existed, I have set it to start at the point were it morphs into what we know as Baba O'Riley.
Here is "Teenage Wasteland":
If it is too slow, play it at 1.25 normal speed, for the more familiar tempo albeit a bit too fast. .

^ (Sixpence None The Richer - There She Goes)
New to me: a fine example of a cover that beats an original, for a start, the intro is mercifully brief unlike the original.
ETA:
I suppose an overlong intro does have its uses.
Look what YouTube suggested for me:
