3kg Tomatoes 2 tubes tomato paste 4dl cream 4dl sour cream salt, pepper oregano 4 garlic cloves fresh parsley fresh chives
Put tomatoes in boiling water for 1-2 minutes, then peel them. Cut tomatoes and put them back in boiling water for 15 minutes. Add spices. Put through blender. Add tomato paste and stir until creamy consistency. Boil for another 10 minutes, then add herbs, cream and sour cream. (Actually I would add the cream and sour cream on the day you reheat it)
There. Not as quick and easy but real ingredients.

I do tomato and lentil or tomato and carrot or all 3. Onions, veg stock, for quickness I use cans of tomatoes (when I have lots of tomatoes and time I use fresh and chop them up) and you boil up the lentils separately and add in after you've whizzed up the tomatoes. Plenty salt and pepper
I was thinking of Heinz tomato soup today.

Mmmmm I want heinz now! I make this and it is pretty special - my friends all reckon I am a soup guru on the back of It ha ha. Roasting the toms is well worth it, I chuck the onions in there too roast too. Although I just chop them roughly and, chuck in an oven dish with oo and s&p, no wirerack fussiness. www.taste.com.au/recipes/10664/roast+tomato+lentil+cumin+soup

Ah, I'm so glad it did the trick. Almost makes up for years of derision about my Ham in Cherry Coke recipe. Nevermind the cheesy peas.

Tilly, I made your soup recipe last night and wow, it was amazing and delicious! And seriously simple and quick to make. I think it's going to be the thing I cook when I want to impress

I read your blog lumi, and the soup you made.
I don't know why but it fucking annoys me (sorry tourettes here) when people make vegetarian soups meaty by using chicken stock. Probably because it something that my in laws and their families do without thinking and then I can't eat it at their dinners when they tell me I can. Maybe I should start a campaign, as well as writing my book about a veggie in SA!!!
Cheesy peas though, it's peas and cheese, innit?

I knew a French chef once who wanted to cook myself and friends a meal but he didn't want to cook vegetarian food so my now husband ended up doing my food.
I thought that was just really silly

I did think it was a bit odd to have to add chicken stock but as nobody who was eating any of the times I've made it was vegetarian I just followed the recipe(yep, have made it several times cos it's so good!). I would have changed it if there were vegetarians eating though as I have done in the past.
I don't remember what I wrote on my blog but pretty sure i didn't say that it was a vegetarian dish. If I mistakenly did I'll change it and that can be the successful beginning of your campaign! ;D
It took me a while to figure out what the Dutch word for cumin was when trying to get the ingredients in the supermarket!

Yes - I got the impression that German/Austrian/Swiss people don't really use cumin because no one seemed to know what it was. I finally found out the Geman term though - kreuz-kummel (that's probably spelled wrong, though) - is it similar in Dutch?

I can't remember the Dutch word for cumin now and neither can mr lumi (who's Dutch!). We were using google translate and the link while in the supermarket and even then it took a while to confirm what it was and find a packet. The funny thing was that we ended up finding a packet in his parent's cupboard when we got home!

No lumi I don't think you said it was vegetarian, just one of my gripes that's all.

Yesterday I used Tilly's recipe and it was SO GOOD!!
Normally I'd have made it with veggie stock, but I do eat free-range poultry and I made some stock from the Xmas turkey, which I used in it. I wonder how much the good stock had to do with the result, and how much it was the roasted tomatoes and cumin? Anyway, it was great and I'll definitely be making it again.

But sadly the link no longer works. Does anyone happen to have this exact recipe for tomato and lentil soup??

Thanks, Mark, your link works for me (original still doesn't). I will be making soup for dinner this week! Hopefully it tastes as nice as I remember it.
