we are off to reykjavik in two weeks to cruise around greenland and back to iceland... the airlines and airports are in the news as understaffed so we are planning to take only carry-ons in order to avoid losing luggage...

Having been in the Lofotens on MidSummer's Day .... you WILL need rain gear and warm things - and I dearly loved having taken rubber boots !

Today we are going to a daughter's house in the Cotswolds. Her village is having an Open Garden Day. Of course it is raining.

I’ve booked and paid for air to Manzanillo, Mexico next February. I will be staying with friends in Melaque. Here’s hoping the plague doesn’t make a comeback and screw things up!

I found a cargo trip from Antwerp to Finland to console myself but all of a sudden the agency is not replying to me...

Now that I have booked and paid for my cargo trip, tomorrow I have to ask my doctor to put a false date on the required medical report during tomorrow's quarterly visit. She is about to leave on her annual holiday and will not be around to put a correct date on the "less than one month" certificate saying that in spite of my great age, I am capable of climbing stairs and do not require a special diet. So stupid!
I am hoping that she will find that as stupid as I do and won't mind risking having her medical licence revoked.

She filled in a fake date with no problem.

K2, where did you go? How many passengers on board? Did you take your own rosti or was the food OK?

|

Post by kerouac2 on Sept 11, 2022 15:35:03 GMT 2
There were two passengers (eight is the maximum on that ship). The food was very "standard" and with a crew of 19, everybody ate exactly the same thing, so I felt a bit sorry for the Filipinos. Three different dining areas, though -- officers, crew and passengers.
The trip was from Antwerp to Hanko and Rauma in Finland and then back to Hanko for an unplanned and unexplained stop but the captain was annoyed, which took an extra half day, so it was a 9-day trip in all. Both the other (Dutch) passenger and I would have been pleased for it to last even longer.

Anyway, you know where to go slumming (or lurking) to see the full photo report of the trip.

I've reserved our seats for LHR-BKK. It's nearly 4 months ahead but I have ensured Mrs Faz and I sit together. EVA may be a 5 star airline but its online site is 1 star.

Thank you, Jeff! I was lucky indeed, the train line I was riding was about the only one running almost "as normal". It left from a different platform, but was fine, on time.
Went near the esplanade in front of King's Cross station and the atmosphere of the protest was akin to a street party with people making lots of noise etc... all in good humour. I hope it remained so.

packing and sorting for our trip on sunday: afternoon flight to heathrow to spend the night by the airport, then on monday a coach to southampton to catch a boat to new jersey via the azores, halifax, and boston... then after a couple of days seeing folks flying to the west coast for the rest of the trip, returning home on the 24th of november...
