Do You always shop for you food in the same place? Maybe you have a fave store or indeed shop at a local market like Baz and Hedonist are able to do?
I have a hyper size Sainsbury on my doorstep for basics, a great butcher 300 meters away from the house and a vegetable store maybe 500meters away too. I am quite lucky to have this many choices on the doorstep-ish. There is also a health foods store 5 mins drive in to the city for pulses etc. next to a chinese supermarket, fish market and a cheese store which I love to visit too. I am thinking of heading to a Waitrose today becuase they stock much better quality foods and wines. It had occured to me that I always buy the same things from the same places every day/week

I have Sainsburys deliver all the bulky, heavy stuff once a month: freezer items, potatoes, tins, toilet roll, housecleaning, nappies etc etc. Then I generally got to our local market for fruit and veg and the local co-op or butcher for meat. We have a Chinese supermarket and an Indian supermarket close by for good things and bread and milk comes from wherever I happen to be walking past when we need it! I work near this amazing cheese shop and sometimes I can't resist popping in and getting a treat www.paxtonandwhitfield.co.uk/I have a cafe near me that sells Indian sweets also for treats

Nothing beats the wonderful aroma of a cheesemongers shop.

We have changed our shopping habits over the last year due to the financial squeeze and we now go to something like a Lidle for budget shopping, go to our main supermarket for things we can't get there and to the market or farm shop for the occasional treat. We are saving a lot of money this way and especially as we look at the prices of everything now. Sounds crazy but up until last year we never look at the price of day to day goods.

I use the same supermarket for most stuff - including meats and vegs as the quality is really quite good. If I'm with someone with a membership ( and I try to do so at least once a year in each location) I go to the warehouse stores for the paper goods etc and stock up. We don't have speciality shops nearby - except for fish/shellfish. - and I go there, or for lobstah I go right to the dock. There is a farmer's market in the summer - but it is SO expensive I just can't justify it.

I go to a fruiterer on a weekly basis for my fruit and veg (it is like a big roadside stall) and then a choice of 2 supermarkets for general stuff. One has a better range of cheese, the other has more free range meat choices for the husband. If we want spices and basmati rice etc we go to a bulk/wholesaler and stock up.

Forgot about our trips to the Chinese deli, about once a month to stock up everything Asian

We do have a good Sunday marfket which is where I like to buy vegetables, dalads, fruit and bread. Today we drove a little further and found an even better market - but it is only on Fridays One day during the week I do the same as Hedon: Lidl followed by Intermarche. We have a really good Intermarche here, bigger choice and cheaper than the one I used to use in the Herault. They have weekly half price offers on lots of things when I stock up: yesterday I saved 30 euros.

Once a week I go to a regular shopping centre for basics, Sundays to the markets for fruit and veggies, probably once a month or two to the Asian supermarkets and once every week or two to the seafood outlet. A few veggies and most herbs come from our garden. Gourmet goodies from my work of course

I was thinking I had everything within a few steps of my place, but now I realize that there is no specific cheese store in my neighborhood. However, there is a cheese vendor at the covered market.

I can't get any nearer today's date than 2009. I wonder what will happen if I post this?

It worked. Normality has returned to Bon Appetit. Anyway to answer Big Iain's question.... I shop at Waitrose as it is 5 minutes walk from our front door. We have an excellent fruit and veg shop. I haven't had good experiences at our butchers. We have a bakery but it is very expensive and I don't think much of the bread. If I walk 20 minutes there is a good discount supermarket. Also a big Tesco which I dislike. Pretty normal for England, I guess.

We used to have a corner shop opposite the end of the street where I grew up. no more. Now you need to go into the town centre, 10 minutes' or so away. but most of the supermarkets and such are in the outskirts of town now. Because people drive everywhere as they live in the villages and hamlets perching on the mountainsides.

Shopping at the moment is a nightmare. Waitrose is only allowing a few people in at a time; the rest have to queue outside and now the weather has turned cold and windy this is unpleasant. However because of my advanced age today I was told I could click-and-collect next Tuesday. We have put in a large order. Cheap red wine will not run out.

Because I'm starting my volunteering job on Monday, I needed a couple things more than what i got yesterday, and my neighbours thought they'd take advantage to add to the list as well, so I went out shopping again with my faithful "shopper" on wheels. Really worth it.
It was my pleasure to notice that as the week went by, people got calmer. People are slowly adapting. the shelves are not bare anymore. the fear and tension in the air is not so horrid as it was a few days earlier.

There is something odd going on around here. It seems like people are shopping less, a lot less, perhaps plenty of panic staying at home.
