Mr gringa has a co-worker that is taking a trip to New York City with a friend for about 2 weeks. She asked him to ask me some questions. However, I haven't even been there since 2001 and that was a short trip.
They get in really early in the AM and it sounds like the hotel is near JFK. They wanted to find somewhere to leave their luggage and go do some breakfast and then do some sightseeing since they can't check in until 3.
My first idea was maybe to see if they can leave their bags at the hotel. If not, is there anywhere they could leave them at the airport or somewhere at a train station in Manhattan? I am kind of thinking not due to terrorism concerns.
Does anyone have a suggestion for an itinerary for that time they need to fill, and/or a good breakfast place?

didn't grand central station have a zone where people could leave their luggage? you might be right about the terrorism thing cutting that kind of option.
I would contact the hotel to see if they can leave their luggage with reception until they can check in. that's the most reasonable solution to me at the moment.
After a long-haul flight, if the weather is good, I'd love to stretch my legs in central park and if the weather is bad the Guggenheim is just within central park if I am not mistaken.
