I voted "I would not have hypnotherapy" but might be convinced of it by the right person.

I want to try it for my fear of heights. Just need to get round to it! I know that my Mum has used it to give up smoking for a few years at a time, when it starts to “wear off” and she feels like smoking again gets hypnotised again. At £100 or so a time it is much cheaper than buying cigarettes for 3 years

I had hypnotherapy to conquer my fear of heights because I wanted to ride camels. I went to a woman I knew and trusted (she was also very cheap, at £25 a session). It took two sessions in all - the first was just talking, for background - or so I thought. It transpired that I HAD been hypnotised during that first session as well. One exercise she gave me was to imagine I was on a camel, then breathe easily. The very first time I did it my back seized up immediately. Ah! Of course, if your back seizes up you're in no position to fall sensibly. Immediate improvement! I'm still not completely free of my fear of heights, but I can ride my camels, (elephants are still a bit too high for me), climb stepladders with no problem and don't get panicked by it any more. And I'm not irrational about not being able to step right up to floor-to-ceiling plate glass windows on upper floors.
I thought it was because I'd been pushed backwards off a wall when I was a child, but it turned out to be from another episode which I remembered but had never connected as it was so 'piffling'. It's amazing what small things as a child affect the rest of our lives.
I've studied hypnotherapy myself and can (and do, for certain purposes) put myself into a light trance, but for something deep you need to use another, trained person.

That encourages me Goldie as I am as bad as you were – windows, high balconies, stepladders are all terrifying! Although I can ride a camel and an elephant!
I want to be able to go walking in high places without panic and I am pretty sure I can remember the incident that made me scared of heights and it was watching someone else’s fear so I also want to be able to control my fear in front of people so I don’t pass it on!
