Voy ~ I hope Tuxtla Gutiérrez is just a stop-over, and that you are planning to go to San Cristóbal. It's a really magical place that should not be missed. (will probably be chilly there, though)

thanks Bix! - that is exactly the plan. Originally I planned to do it all by bus - but with so short a time, flying became necessary - and thus Tuxtla - as it has an airport! from there to San Cristobal - and maybe the mountain villages with the textiles, and then by bus to Oaxaca. thanks!

Even if you don't have time to get outside of San Cristóbal, you will adore the big crafts market there. It's in a wonderful location and the variety and quality of the textile goods are astounding.
